The last few months I've noticed a huge uptick in email phishing scams coming to my email.
First they were the generic "...buy our cheap viagraa & go see alice....", cheep canadian meds, etc. & your account with "X" has been suspended BS.
Then they started with bogus Linked In messages, which is more business oriented, than just spaced book & flitter social networking, so I thought those would be less prone to such abuse (apparently so hoped the trout phishers too).
Now this weekend I started getting emails from my uncle who's been dead for about 10 years ..... HOLY CRAP - MESSAGES FROM THE DEAD!!?? ..... so apparently someone in my family who still had his old email on their computer got hacked. He was the one whose `58 Vette & 32 Roadster I helped build/resto in the 60's, so I was hoping he was letting me know where to find them today as barn finds!
So you cannot even trust stuff from folks you know, and this is just a friendly heads-up to all to check any suspicious or even marginally questionable emails & the true destinations of their links - not to mention avoiding opening anything .zip etc.!
To the hackers & phishers of the world, go get a real job and do something honest, worthwhile & useful to society & the world, and stop trying to live as blood sucking scum!
.... and before someone suggests that I use spam filtering, I had to turn off Earthlink's stuff cuz it cuts out too many legit business & even some 914 related communications. However, I do leave all the email on their server until I can go through & sort out the trash & scams, before I download anything, and look at their email addys, link locations, attachments, etc. for safety sake.
Cheers!
Tom
