Anyone here know how to remove the pulley and dampner assembly on the front crank? This one does not have a visible bolt (inside the assembly). It's a SBC 283 that was original to 1960. Also has rivets (kind of) that attach the pulley to the dampner so I assume they come off together with a big puller maybe? An engine building book I have says that some motors came this way but doesn't give procedures for removal in this case..all help would be greatly appreciated!

I have not seen a pulley type that was not bolted. I just removed them using a puller I rented from Kragens. It had provisions to work with many types. Only $7...after paying the full deposit.

Pully should be bolted to the damper. The damper should have one large bolt on the crank. If you plan on reusing the damper, you will need to be VERY careful pulling it off. Otherwise you will just pull off the outer ring, and you would be screwed at that point. Maybe there is 40 years of crud hiding the flats on the boltheads?

You will need to remove the pulley then use a harmonic balancer puller (it uses the pulley bolt holes) to remove the dampner. You should drill and tap the crank for a bolt. The older SBC didn't have a center bolt. I threw the whole setup off a older 327 that didn't have one.
