Finished welding the passenger side fender on today. At one point after a few bursts of weld, I checked the door for proper operation. It wouldn't latch. Dropped the door about 1/16 and it still wouldn't latch. I immediately thought I really tweaked something to throw the door out of alignment.

Luckily the latch itself is just started acting up. blink.gif

If I manually latch the arm at the rear of the door while the door is open, then trigger it to unlatch with the door handle, the door will latch properly a few times. When it stops closing right, I have to repeat this process to get it to latch.

Anybody encounter this - is my door latch going bad?

And what was the fix?

Thanks.

The units get dry and need to be cleaned and lubed. My car sat for 8 years and would not open form either door. I got new plastic cams but before I installed them I removed the latches and cleaned and lubed them. Spraying them with WD40 will free them up but will remove the grease, so relube them after that. smile.gif
