How do I know if my oil bypass valve is working and hot oil is being routed to the oil cooler? Where is the bypass valeve located?

Bypass is located on bottom of engine, under the large screw. Remove and check for free movement of piston, and check spring aginst specification.
How hot is your oil getting?

My gauge says its over 250d, and on the open highway, 80 MPH, 3200 RPM it starts to edge up to 260.
