Michel, Mon Ami

Glad to hear you made it back safely. It was a pleasure and hope to see you again at the next Ramble.
Hartmann
Michel - Glad to see that you made it ok. About an hour or so after we parted, the sky let loose with all sorts of rain and lightning.

The 2004 ECR was a blast - especially meeting Joan! Thanks Joan for being there for me. biggrin.gif

Best to Renata (sp) - Ralf and Peggy -

I actually missed most of the rain: It fell while I was at the border station processing the paperwork to get the car into Canada. Timed it almost perfectly, as I was stopped 45 minutes and the thunderstorms lasteda about 43 mns.

Cheers

p.s Thanks, Joan, your return trip seems to have gone well too. Look forward to next year also. My wife and daughter voted to keep the car green. Now all I need is to figure out the name of that shade.

Michel,

Glad you made it home safely beerchug.gif . I vote on "Highlighter Lime-Yellow" for the name of the color.

A big thank you to everyone for making this an awesome ramble.

All my best,
Mike D.

Now all I need is to figure out the name of that shade.

There are several old threads here about how to figure out what color a car is. I got this from one of them: "See if the original paint code plate is still on the driver side door sill, up front by the door jam switch." There are a few more threads about how to translate it.

It's Ravenna green, and the more I look at it, the more I like it !

Tell us about crossing the border with the car. What did you have to do? What paper work was required? What kind of fees, did they strip search the teener?
michel richard
Drove up direct to the Canadian border station.

5 or 6 cars ahead of me, 10 minute wait. Before the customs officer in the booth had a chance to ask if I had anything to declare, I told him I was importing the car.

Went inside the station, gave the title and registration to a young customs officer who proceeded to fill out the paperwork. She asked if there was a sticker on the door jam, to which I answered positively and mentionned the July '73 build date. She pulled a book out to determine a taxable value for the car and I paid a small duty amount (because the car was not built in North-America) and sales tax. She handed the filled-in paperwork over.

Nobody came out to look at the car.

Actually, the starter had been sticking during the weekend, and I could'nt get the car to start. A couple of youg customs people were outside having a smoke and I asked if they would give me a push ! Tried a couple of times, but without success; they were all smiling and helpful. Let the car cool down another 20 minutes, and got it going.

All in all, I was at the border for about an hour, and except for paying taxes, it was entirely business-like.

Continued on home with the Mass plates. I think I'm allowed to use them for 30 days. My deal with the seller is that I will mail them back when I'm done. I'll go to the license bureau over lunch today and will start the process to get Quebec license plates.

Went to the Quebec License bureau over lunch, more stoopid taxes to pay, of course, but got a plate !

Car is now officially Canadian.

Hello Michel

Do you still own that BugEye and the Europa ? What is your trick with the wife ?

Bye

Serge
Hartmann
driving.gif Michel does tricks with his wife?? Now that I want to hear about - maybe I can try a few!
michel richard
Yes, I still own the Bugeye and the Europa. With the 914 they make three old european sports cars that were at the bottom end of their manufacturer's offerings. That's why I can afford them, I guess.

Louise is very understanding and she enjoys the occasional romp in one of the little cars. I just need to do some house work once in a while.

Europa is not yet road worthy. Fixing that and swappint all the 914 parts from the old frame to the new will fill the whole winter !
