so..in the distant future....i will be rebuilding my 71, 1.7 engine, if all goes as planned i will send it to jake, but what can be done to a 1.7, is it as easy to modify as a 2.0?

should i just get a 2.0 block and send that instead......any ideas/suggestions

im looking for about 150 hp and 150 torque, if possible, nothing crazy, i want to keep it as stock as possible in the sense that i want a t-4 that isnt way much higer than 2.0L

you can turn your 1.7 block into a 2.0, but you need the 2.0 crank and rods..........150hp?? must be nice to have $5000 (minimum) to spend on a motor

Nothing special about the 2.0 case. Same old thing. Jake prefers the 1.7 or maybe it is one of the bus cases can't remember.

The 2.0 porsche heads do flow better and have better plug placement but Jakes best stock type heads are the square port head, more flow potential.

Just send the 1.7.

Also, he uses 1.7 rocker arms only, they are the only ones that can be milled to accept the 911 swivel feet adjusters.

So you really have quite a good core.

150/150 is hard to achieve w/o going pretty whole hog down the big engine route. Jake can get that out of a 2270 (well, the 150hp bit, anyway). 150ft/lbs of torque is very hard to do w/o a turbo or building the engine up to a 2.4 or thereabouts. Torque basically scales with engine size (normally aspirated). 150 could very probably be done from a 2.0, but you're looking at a revver motor to get there (hottish cam and lots of port work).

To give you a frame of reference, a 2.4 911T engine makes 140/140, more or less. With a stock 914 gearbox, such a engine will light up the tires in the first two gears. Indeed, even anything past 3/4 throttle in first will light up the tires, even w/o slipping the clutch, and you can make gentle starts in second even uphill. 140ft/lbs is a lot of torque for this car.

well..with a 2056 rebuild from jake..how much torque does that give?

He had dyno charts on his page, but that area's all under reconstruction now. I think in the 110ft/lb range.
