CNN Money has a list of cars "you won't believe are collectible"... including, of course, our beloved.

QUOTE
Value today: $35,000
Price when new: $6,000
Once viewed with disdain as a cheap Volkswagen dressed up in a very un-Porsche-like Porsche body, the 914 has gone on to earn a certain respect in its own right, especially 6-cylinder powered versions. It's now seen as a predecessor to today's Porsche Boxster and its odd flat-backed roof-line seems kind of funky.

The writeup would be pretty accurate if it were just about /6's.

But the photo... who else notices the oddity?

Bingo.

The article actually lists "1970 Porsche 914" - then goes on to talk about /6's. That's a '73 or '74, and at least started life as a /4.

I don't think so ...

- Fixed passenger seat.
- No-retractable early style seat belts

I think someone replaced their dinged up front bumper with a '73/'74 bumper.

Maybe this six (appears to be a six?) belongs to someone who lives in San Francisco where the asshats who drive there take bumpers literally and don't stop backing up until they hit your car and see it move. The little titties would provide some protection.

The fact that the writer listed the Pacer shows he's not to knowlegable about AMC cars. The most collectable AMC is this one.

'68 AMX TWO SEATED

I really wanted one of those back in the day. The only other US made two-seaters were the Corvette and the Shelby GT350/500. The early AMXs have been considered collectible for quite a while now and I think the article was highlighting cars that are just now reaching that level.

Early Thunderbirds
Ford GT-40
Pontiac Fiero
Ford EXP
Plymouth Prowler
Cadillac XLR

... and I'm sure several others that don't come to mind right now. I'm not 100% certain all were made in the USA, however.

Except, the purpose of the article was *not* to highlight the best, most ever collectable car ever made, but rather a list of odd cars that are just now starting to get collector status.

I was referring to 1968 cars that were contemporary to the AMX.
