Full Version: Fuel pump shorting out

I connected my fuel pump to the wiring harness and turned on the ignition. The fuse in the relay board blew. I checked for a short and followed it back to the pump itself. The positive pole of the pump has a resistance of 2.5ohms accross the positive and negative poles of the pump. The positive pole also has continuity with the case. However, when connected to the 12v battery, the pump runs. Is there an internal resistor blown? If the windings were shorted, the pump should not run. Suggestions?
What is the normal operating resistance across the pump?
Thanks,
L. McC

Suggestions?

the heater blower runs off the same fuse. make sure you don't have a short in there. check the green and brown wires for the blower. disconnect it and see if that makes a difference.

people often disconnect the heater blower and just let the wires dangle.
that'll kill the fuse and the pump won't run ...

Thanks Andy.
No, there is only 2.5ohms resistance accross the + and - poles of the pump, when the pump is isolated from the wiring harness. Is 2.5ohms the normal resistance?

AAR runs from that fuse too...
