Jake,
What is the bore / stroke combo to get to 2316cc?

80x96

That's what I thought.
I still have my 97mm Aria's
What stroke should I go with 78 or 80?
(I know, simple question. Long answer.)

yes, of course... The 80 stroke with the 5.325 rod length is an awesome monster! Especially for auto X and track...

paul, whats the pin height on those pistons??? That makes a HUGE difference in how easy stroking is to achieve...
URY914
Sep 6 2004, 07:55 PM
2365
I like the sound of that.

I'll have to measure the pin height.
I don't know, never measured them, but I will now.

Top to centerline of the pin, right?
Jake Raby
Sep 6 2004, 08:27 PM
what pin size are they??
measure from the top of the pin boss to the crown....Then measure across the pin and divide by two. Add the 1/2 of the pin diameter to the distance from the top of the pin boss to the crown and thats the pin height...
Hopefully they are 22mm pinned
URY914
Sep 6 2004, 08:47 PM
I measured the pin and it's a 24mm.
And if I did it right the pin height is 36.893mm
Sound right?

Thats a very low pin height. It is set up for a stock stroke engine.... To use them would require very thick cylinder shims to gain decent CR.
Also they are 24mm pinned and not 22. All the rods that are matching this combo are 22mm pinned like a Type I.
I would sell those pistons and use the money to have some custom JEs made for them. They could use my JE forgings and just increase the diameter for your cylinders, that would be very simple. I could have the math done for JE in about 10 minutes if you wanted. This would yield only a .100 shim at the most.

Or use my stock 2.0 crank and run them as is?
Because who has 97mm cylinders to fit these pistions if I was to try to sell them?

A stock cylinder can be bored to 97mm.......
You could keep it stock stroke, but DAMN what we can do if you stroke it.....

are they like domed pistons or something?

lightweight and domed i see.....

Jake,
What would a set of JE's with 22mm pin, 97mm bored with the correct pin height cost?
Paul
URY914
Sep 6 2004, 09:58 PM
lightweight pin too,
Jake Raby
Sep 6 2004, 10:01 PM
And a positive dome...... Yowzas! That must be good for 5ccs+
Yeah, keep those on a stock stroke engine for sure. Higher piston speeds will really work on those pin bosses.

Thanks!
You just saved me the cost of a crank.
So I'm back to a stock rod length also?

yeah, but lighten the hell out of them!!! and use the best bolts you can find.

GAHHH
JUST SEND HIM YOUR ENGINE AND LET HIM HAVE AT IT!!!!!
I know theres got to be more than One person like me that wants to see the lightest 914 with the most potent T4 engine......
Soooo.... What was your engine makeing hp wise paul?

What about a aftermarket stock length rod, CB Super Race Rods?
Jake Raby
Sep 6 2004, 10:24 PM
NOTHING has the std 2.0 big end in an aftermarket rod...
You are stuck using stockers or calling Carrillo.
I have bushed pistons to 22mm before though....

Carrillo=$$$
Correct me if I'm wrong here but I should:
1. Keep my stock crank & add counterweights.
2. Keep my stock rods and lighten the shit out of them.
(What do they weigh stock and what do I need to get them down to?)
3. Web cam and ceramic lifters.
4. Lighten the flywheel.
5. Use a anti-friction coating on everything.
6. Use new case and rod bolts
This takes me up to the heads which is atopic for another time.

. Keep my stock crank & add counterweights.
Nope, don't even counterweight it! keep that sucker light!
2. Keep my stock rods and lighten the shit out of them.
Yep
(What do they weigh stock and what do I need to get them down to?)
About 750 grams. Take them down to around 600
3. Web cam and ceramic lifters.
Absolutely
4. Lighten the flywheel.
Yep, like hell
5. Use a anti-friction coating on everything.
Yep, and I know exatly which ones to use and not use
6. Use new case and rod bolts
No new case needed. Send me yours for some tricks. The rod bolts come from ARP and are a MUST!
You forgot one, send it all to me for balancing.

Jake,
Once again you're a wealth of information. Sorry I hijacked your 2316 thread but you provided me with the info I needed. You just changed my build sheet and saved me money! You'll get my business for sure.
Thanks again,
See you at the FL Bug Jam

Won't be at Bug Jam this year, no time for it.
