Okay... made it to Tractor Supply with my neighbor's 2-ton pickup. Had the little country fellow load up the BFC on the back of the truck with the fork lift. Strapper her down. Drove home 10 miles very slowly. Backed up in the driveway.... err... uhhh... okay now what! 500 lb compressor in the bed of a truck. High center of gravity. Ummm..

Using a 12' fiberglass ladder, a piece of cardboard, a 2'x2' piece of 1" plywood, and a 6 foot 2x6 piece of lumber, we got her off the back of the truck and into the garage. Okay... (we had a McGyver moment)....

So here she is! All hail the BFC (Big F--ing Compressor if you're a bit slow!) 80 gallons, 18.1 CFM at 90PSI, 11.8 peak HP.

My neighbor kid wanted to know what it was for and what the valve on the right was. I told him it was a Fart Compressor. In case he ran out of farts, he could put his butt up to the valve, and we could "recharge" him.

Next comes the hardline plumbing and the wiring. Then I'll set up the bead blasting cabinet and I'll be able to start cleaning up suspension parts, rusty bolts and get down to the fun stuff of the restoration/conversion. I figure while the chassis is in the shop getting the flares welded on, and repainted, I can get set up shop.

Cleaning station, blasting station, repainting station, replating station.

Should be fun. Don't send OSHA my way.

2 cylinders. Runs on synthetic oil. It has an oversized flywheel and nice bearings.

Specs...

5 H.P. run (11.8 H.P. Peak) 230V single-stage air compressor. This compressor has 135 Max. PSI and 80 gallon ASME tank. 18.1 CFM @ 90 PSI. 100% continuous duty all cast iron pump. 230V single phase motor with no starter required. Mounted discharge valve. Industrial grade pump.

Haven't started her up yet. I put the oil in. Tomorrow we wire her up and maybe do the initial burn-in. heh heh heh.

I still have to assemble the blast cabinet.

Wired her up today! Jumped off the waterheater. Stubbed out a 4x4 box using a 3" standoff nipple (nice nipples), and a receptacle. Wired a 220V extension cord with 12/3 from the compressor to the new outlet box. I never worked with 220 before.

Turned the breaker on. Yipee no explosion!

The compressor fired right up and it went through the break-in process.

I have to say, I was afraid that this BFC would make a lot of noise, but it's really quiet. The noise comes in when you are draining 80 gallons of compressed air at 135 psi at 18 CFM. It was like a friggin F-16 taking off in my garage.

Any ways... no crispy burnt limps, no sparks, no breakers tripping.

Next... assemble the bead blast cabinet!

I would like to find out how many other people have wired their 220 compressor off the dryer circuit..besides me...LOL
