I found this relay under the passanger seat. It seems to be a replacement part in that it is an Audi part number. The relay is about 1.5 inch cube with 214 marked on the top. Audi part number is 443 951 253K. Other number is SHO 89 9512. Any idea what the relay acts on? Is it necessary?
Thanks,

It's the famous seat heater.

well....ok, not a seat heater, but seat belt disconnected buzzer relay thingy.

what is the year of your car?

if it's around '74 it could well be the infamous seat belt interlock.

The body and electrical is a 72. I too thought it's a seatbelt interupter.

It was not just Porsche that had these silly things. I had a 1973 SAAB 99 with the same type of sensor. If a passenger was in the seat with no belt, a big red light on the dash would light and a buzzer would sound. A real pain in the keister if you had a heavy box in the passenger seat.

'72 sounds too early ...

do you have the red "fasten seatbelt" light on the dash?
