Bought this puppy in October. When I put the VIN number in the database a previous entry came up from the po which had a pic of the car and a copy of an ad he was running on ebay, which stated "no rust" Here is photo took today while removing tar from floor. Can't see in this picture but passenger rear floor pretty much swiss cheese. Nice to show passengers what was holding them up! And found out all that pink insulation in front of tunnel was an animal's nest (rat, mouse, bird? (lots of bird feathers). There are not covers on tunnel ports. Now my big concern is, do I really have to cut fender off to do a proper restore?

I have learned not to trust anyone who says "no rust". I bought a Saab Sonett many years ago from a guy in Memphis, which he claimed had no rust. When I made it there, the floors had holes large enough to accomodate Fred Flinstone headbang.gif

I ended up buying it anyway, though I started feeling a strong "distrust" in people that day. headbang.gif

Don't hold your breasts. We have tried (more than once) to give tubs like that away for free. No takers ...

In CA, '76 and up need a smog check every two years sheeplove.gif

All the original smog equipment including the CAT exhaust is required along with the stock T4 engine dry.gif

That's the reason I won't own a '76 912E, although I'm not opposed to sticking a FI-T4 into an older 912 biggrin.gif
sixnotfour
He is up here in washington, smog Not applicable.
I know (esp. eastcoasters) you can save thousands in health not welding and grinding, but most choose to do it anyway. = crusher for better tubs

I forgot to mention swaybars front and rear

BTW those sail panels on the orange car are bumpy for a reason=rust, lesson learned the hard way.

I think he and the poster live very close to each other!

Otherwise, I might be adding yet another clunker to the collection! av-943.gif

Don't let JRUST see this. He has a damaged tub that would allow for a transfer of all stuff to that tub.

I noticed rust when I was looking, but did not expect this. The no rust ad was a year before I purcased, must have rusted really fast. Live and learn...

What hump are you looking at, the one on the back of the car?

Maybe it looks big due to angle of the photo...? the floor is dented up in places but don't think you can see that.

They all have it. If you look from the engine bay side you can see why it's there ...

Send them back East!!!!

I would be interested in one of these later cars; it is impossible to find clean ones in the Northeast. That orange car would be considered rust free back here.

I found a nice one a few years back while visiting relatives in Dublin. The deal fell apart though because I couldn't find a trucking company in the Bay Area that wanted to ship a roller.
sixnotfour
shipping should be easy just $$
Dr Evil
I would seriously consider going and picking up a load of good shells if people were willing to pitch in, buy them, pay shipping, etc. It would essentially be free labor.

When I wrecked my actual rust free 914 here in the east, a nice guy whose name I forget (shameful of me) GAVE me a clean tub from CA. I paid about $1100 to ship it out and saved a mint over the trash I was finding here in the East.

i've thought of doing that myself. If you could make enough to cover expenses it would be fun and may lead to other opportunities.
jmill
You can never just have one 914. I'd consider another 73 for the right price. idea.gif

Brad tried to put that together at one point. Dozens of people claimed to be interested, but when it came time to actually put money down, nobody was there.

I have nothing but time on my hands, and even know a few cheap hotels along the way where pool fishing requires no license and the neighbors are usually a helluva lot more entertaining than cable porn biggrin.gif

Oh, Doc, I have Narcalepsi when taking my liquid analgesics. You drive beer3.gif

I think you're right. Sounds good in theory...until payment time!

We would Jim, but your used parts warehouse club is consuming all the bandwidth in the Cloud...
