I know, I know .............. Being the one true anti-pertronix, I haven't a clue where the red and black wires go. Swapping a distributor to the guy's new Type 1 motor, and I need to know so I don't let all the smoke out ............................ TIA, the Cap'n

Toughest question we've had here in months.....

Look in the bottom of the box.....piece of paper called "INSTRUCTIONS".....it's right next to the spare set of points that you need when it takes a shit on ya the day after the warranty expires.... w00t.gif

Thanks. Kevin actually was the 1st to answer over at rennlist, where I actually asked AFTER I didn't hear from this list. As for the instructions being in the box, most people don't carry the box around 2 years after they buy the car with the pertronix installed ............................... The Cap'n, thankful and satisfied .............

WARNING: the Pertronix needs to get its power w/o the ballast resistor interfering. If the coil has an internal resistor, no worries, just hook the red to + and the black to -. If there's an external ballast resistor or a resistor wire to the + post, you need to hook the red wire up BEFORE that. If you try to run the Pertronix on less than 12 volts, it won' t work. I don't think it will smoke, but it will run like crap (assuming you can even get it started).
