There's a somewhat complete but shabby looking 914 on e-bay w/ Fuchs (engine dead) with a reserve of $150 with a $200 buy it now! Anyone need a parts car in the Tennessee area?

I know NOTHING about the car or owner, just thought it might help someone out.

Cheap teener
Chris H.
Damn that was quick! Already gone.

Looks like Bruce Napier is the winner.

I think he is on this board.

I recall seeing his name.

Gee I wonder who that might be cool_shades.gif

Thanks for the tip Chris.

My son wants the rims for his car and have all the other parts here to put it back on the road.

On holidays this week, so I'm off to get it Tuesday if everything works out ok.

Back bacon is great! You'd never choke on it. You might fall under the wonderful taste of real back bacon, perhaps even to the point of asphysixiation, but you'd never choke on it. (man, I wish I could spell...) But I can spell BACK BACON mueba.gif mueba.gif mueba.gif mueba.gif mueba.gif mueba.gif mueba.gif mueba.gif mueba.gif

Dude,

That's quite a trip. Don't wanna tell you how many times I've made the trip from mid-Sask to Winnipeg. (If you're really bored some day, find Moose Jaw on the map -- someday more clues can be had :-) Anywho, have a good pickup-trip (looks like a good grab!) and stay in touch with the group along the way!

If those are four original Fuchs and in good condition, then I think you got a very good deal.

MapQuest says it the same distance as Dallas. So I should be home with it Friday.

Been to Moose Jaw quite a few times. Even stayed there (hot springs). Never did the tunnels under the city tour yet. Room rates are better there than Regina. biggrin.gif

The weather (usually) will be better. biggrin.gif The roads will be variable. biggrin.gif And it's less than a day's drive.

The tunnels -- never done it, so I can't say. The hot springs are cool tho. So's the hotel. (Sheesh, the fact that we are talking about this stuff makes me smile!) I was back in MJ visiting mom not that long ago -- saw -31C (there's a reason I live in San Jose :-).

Best of luck on the trip, and stay in touch -- there are 914 junkes everywhere!

Anyone know what bumper is on the back of the car?
Fiberglass replacement? 916?
Brad Roberts
That is the 916 rear bumper.

Cool, now I don't have to find one for the red car (Nevada) biggrin.gif

Are you taking I-75 up and back? It would be kinda cool to hook up with another lister for lunch/supper if you will be driving through my area. I could try out my new digi camera on your new project.

If you're gonna come through Kansas, let me know!

will it be a major hassle getting the car through customs when you drive back across into canada?

Hey good luck and have a safe journey.

That $200 914 just became at least $700? That's a long haul.
Chris H.
COOL! 'Ol "quickdraw Bruce" strikes again!

I'm so glad someone on the board got it.

Hey Bruce I remember chatting with you back in the day on the All914 chat. You only had 2 914s at the time. How many does this make ? (you can't count the one that's broken in half as 2!) I saw you got that red flared car which is an excellent conversion prospect.

Good luck!

The route planned is I29 to I94 To I694 To I39 To I74 To I57 To I24 To I65

or

Here to Minneapolis then to Madison, WI then South towards Peoria, Il then towards Memphis, East towards Nashville and South towards Huntsville.

I'll be watching the weather, not much chance of snow storms now, but I've seen one tornado close up and that's enough. So the route might change. PM me your phone numbers and I'll call if I'm near by.

About 3000 miles round trip, so Ginters guesstamation is about right on the trip costs. Hotels, gas and food.

About the border: If the car is over 15 yrs old it dosen't have to meet DOT standards (read as no conversion or safety) and if over 25 years it's duty free. So 1/2 hour at the border watching them fill out papers and $21 for the GST tax and I'm home.

I still go into All914 chat to see if anyone is around. We should set a night to play catch up in there? Mondays?

This will make 7 Pcars now (including the 2 halfs). I actually hummmed and hawed about 20 minutes before buying it. It was the boy who said "buy it, I want the rims". So I figured it would cost me more to buy him a set of rims and ship them here than the trip will cost and I like road trips.

If it's repairable I'll put the parts I collected for the first "2 into 1 " project into it. Engine from Dave Bell, bumper from korijo and the other spare parts from the Texas car. Get it back into road shape or use the bits for the red car when I start the conversion.
Brad Roberts
Mondays are good (in the evening)

We use the chat off and on... I try and keep everything on the board.

Man.. I thought I was road trip king... you can have the title !!

Ginter has been making the rounds also.

The route planned .....

Sounds like you have a plan. I hope it's a good road trip. Safe journey.
GWN7
Well the plan was to leave today and arrive in Tennesee Wensday afternoon, but after 4 emails to the seller bounced back as undeliveralble I got a phone number from Ebay. I called it all day yesterday and got a busy signal. Finally I got an answering machine and left a message. The seller called back tonight. Turns out they lost their email provider and their phone lines thanks to a tornado that touched down 1/2 mile away from their house. So I'm off in the am after hitting the bank and doing a oilchange on the truck.
Gint
Good luck man. I hope it a good, safe trip.

What route are you taking?

P.S. Disregard my question. I just saw your route. Your driving into a war zone. Don't you get the weather channel up there? (LOL) I may be sent down there to help settle claims. (Insurance Adjuster) We have alot of policies in that part of the country. Plan for delays.
GWN7
I don't have to be back to work till the 13th, so I'm planning on some delays (hope not) wouldn't want to have the worlds fastest 914 (with Chev truck attached). Watching the weather channel right now.

Thanks
GWN7
Back....

Car is a 71 not a 72. PO bought it in California 3 yrs ago when he was stationed there with the USMC, bought it from another marine who owned the car for about 2 yrs. It was garaged in Cali and stored under a tarp in Tennesse until the PO pulled it out for me to pick it up. A twister went by the night before I got there and the tarp hasn't been seen since.

Car looks very clean (read as not rusty) longs look good, floor pan is good (twister/storm filled the inside with water, about 1" of water inside, so it must be good). Battery tray is a bit rusty but not sagy. Area under battery tray is very nice. PO painted it yellow (was blue). His first attempt (not good). Overspray everywhere. Has sideshifter.

Good Deal smile.gif

need sleep pics later
GWN7
You know you have been driving too much when one of these passes you..............Two gals inside, lost site of them heading west on I94 @ I29
GWN7
Needed to get the fender welded on the trailer in Eau Clare, WI. Was directed to a body shop and guess what thay had in the back.....it's done, floors, longs rotted off. Flares pealing, some good parts left. Owners son drives a cherry 914, told him to join us here.
GWN7

Steel or glass flares ?

B
GWN7
Glass, I checked. Glass was pealed from the door opening all the way back (rusted inbetween). Could have just pulled them off it was so bad. The owner bought it for the front bumper (to put on the good car). He had a 63 split window vett in the shop getting a full restoration. Looked like they did good work.
GWN7
came with the car....says "Universal Brass, Aubrn, WA"
GWN7
Had a few seconds to play with it today, after my welder broke again. Picture of the battery tray. It has some scale on it, but is solid and won't bend. Some minor surface rust below it.

Car also "had" european tail lights. I say "had' because when the tire went bad it not only took out the rear of the fender, it took out the lens on that side. huh.gif

Going to give it a bath in the am. Power wash 5 yrs of storage crud and mouse nests off. Have to have something to do while waiting for the welder to be fixed. biggrin.gif
Brad Roberts
That pressure sensor looks awful clean...

Why does your welder keep failing ??

B
GWN7
Car sat for at least five yrs. The 3 yrs that PO had it and 2 yrs from the PreviousPO, could have been put on just before then? not sure....

Welder is a Clarke 100 NE. I have had trouble with the wire "sticking" in it from day one. Once the wire backed up and went thru the tiny opening in the corner and shorted out the circut board. Last week I was fixing my trailer and it jammed (again), usually I can pull on the wire end and free it or pull it back. This time it broke off inside the supply tube. Called my cousin who owns the tool store where I bought it and got directions to the place that fixes them locally. About an hours drive out of the city. Drove out there with the welder and bought a new supply tube this morning and put it in. Droped in to my cousins store and told him what was wrong....he says "Oh, we have those parts here" (about 5 min from my house) Nice morning to waste driving. huh.gif Turns out Clarke upgraded this part, so I guess it wasn't just me that was having trouble with it. This evening I get on to the rest of the repair. Get about 1/2 finished and the welder quits. Pull trigger and no wire comes out. Guess where I'm driving to again at 7am? smile.gif
