Hey guys/gals I have inadvertantly parked next to an Audi TT (but not in my 914) a couple of times recently and this TT has a simple stock rear spoiler on it. I love the simplicity of the spoiler itself and got to thinking that it might look nice on the back of a 914. It only stands a couple inches tall and what I really like about it is that it is short in length so it wouldn't cover past the width of the trunk, like the aftermarket "duck tail" spoilers do. Also, in looking at it - doesn't seem like the curvature of the bottom mounting surface would be that much off. My car isn't ever going to be stock anyway so I may look into it more. Does anyone on this list have access to one of these cars and may be able to take measurments and give a better idea of weather it would work or not. BTW, I have my flame suit on so don't hesitate to criticize!

I've thought about the using a TT type spoiler also...clean and simple, but how effective but then again if you're not racing, and it's purely aesthetic who cares.

I've never seen a spoiler that looked good on a 914. I love the lines of the stock trunk.

I thought there would be plenty on Ebay but...no. Yeah just aesthetic mostly for me but I wouldn't doubt that some downforce could be acheived from it.

Where is that "worthless without a picture" thing?

The wing on the TT was not part of the original design, early cars did not have them. It was added after several high speed accidents on the 'bahn, it definetly adds downforce to the TT. Might due something for the teener but I still prefer the stock look.

As far as adding downforce, the TT and the Camaro style decklid spoilers just reduce the lift, not add downforce. Best thing for adding actual downforce is a splitter up front, flatbottom w/ diffuser at the rear and a highmount wing. But that'd all look a bit goofy on anything but a racecar if you'd ask me.

Ooooo very nice, I have a couple 2x4's in my garage, snuggling up to my 914...was going to build a retractable bench for my garage, I think I have a new project....lumber-wing here we come!!!

Yeah I have that spoiler that's in the 914 picture and don't care for it, PO sent it uninstalled when i bought my car. It's just too big for my taste. The Audi one however is a much better proportion (IMHO). The picture of the Audi is further away than the 914 picture and therefore seems way too small. I like it. As for the 2X4 wing, a bad choice considering we already have rust to worry about - no need to invite termites!

I've been looking at rear spoilers, too. I don't really care for the common duck tail that you've seen so much of. Instead I'm going to go with the wing they offer at www.rennspd.com. I've only seen a couple of photos of cars with it. It looks real cool. I don't want to drill holes in my '73 2.0 trunk. So, I'll probably spend the extra $250 for their fiberglass trunk lid. I'm also considering their fiberglass front trunk lid, a pair of 916 bumpers, and a set of fiberglass rocker panels, to both cut weight, and to preserve the original parts.

I believe that "Mudfoot" is sporting the wing you speak of on his teener.

I saw a Honda Civic recently that was all "riced" out with the slammed suspension and big chrome wheels and the raised adjustable looking wing on the back, BUT THE WING WAS ON BACKWARDS. I'm glad I wasn't driving 'cause I just about choked when I started laughing so hard!

Check out that plate...I bet that's a fun ride.

Another spoiler that's similar to the ones pictured came on '80s BMW 325s with the sport package. Here's a shot of my $500 Beater MW.

If you want to go the BMW route and want a subtle look, check out the BMW M3/5 lip spoiler (people in the Audi wold have been putting them on A/S4's and A/S6's for a while now)

The only spoiler that makes any sense is a ducktail, the only wing that looks killer is the 2 stage tail from AIR, similar to the... uhh... who makes that now? Sheridan.

I know that it rubs the purists the wrong way, but I do enjoy the unique touch that the wing gives to my car. I doubt it has much function as an aerodynamic piece, but I think it looks great!

Hopefully, I'll be able to pick the car up today. My mech said he expects to have the final details sorted out today. If not, he assures me that I'll have it tomorrow and will be able to drive it out to Putnam Park this weekend.

But, I've got a run of bad automobile karma this week. My happy 'teener day present was a doofus in a ford ranger rear-ending my SVX tuesday night Preliminary inspection suggests insurance will total it. Do we have a smiley that cries?? Aside from the emotional trauma of possibly losing my beloved SVX, I'm ok except for a bruise across my chest from the seatbelt...
