I'm considering replacing my engine with a subaru 220hp. Mine runs good except for that idle deal that I posted about earlier today. I want to sell the original engine. It has about 83K miles on it.

Not much.. it's considered a core.

I think that's low. IMO, a complete, good running engine with good compression should go for $1000-1500. I'm talking full engine/drop in for someone. Sell while it is in a running driving car.

Just off the top of my head you could part it out and get around $1200:

heads $300
case/crank/rods $250
complete FI with good MPS $300
2L tin $100
core P&Cs $75
flywheel $50
alternator $40
2L HEs $50
unbroken fan $50

Ummmm... I have seen way low mile 2.0s for less than 1500 right here in the classifieds, from people we know well, like Scott.

I have all documentation on it since I bought it about 8 years ago. My mechanic was a 914 racer for quite a while and only works on German cars here in Vancouver. I had a neighbor a few years back wanting the engine for a sand rail. He said they really like the type IV for quikness. I "think" he said they paid about 1000-1200 for a decent one and they would soup them up but it's been a while.

Thanks for the replies. If you have any idea on my idle prob, that would be helpful. http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?act...=ST&f=2&t=17268

Adjust valves, tuneup.

Thanks red but it's been tuned and the valves adjusted. The quirk of idle is the only thing I have to iron out. It runs great other than that. Old technology has a lot avariables sometimes. I wish I had the LJet. It was the better and more reliable of the 2 systems.

vacuum leak??? When was the last time hoses were replaced?

We are checking for a vacuum leak and found one and replaced the hose. Most hoses have been replaced. It's these little things that drive yas nutz. wacko.gif

Ya! no shitsky. Mine still idles at 12-1300 after warm. The good thing is it idles at 16-1700 when first turned on. I do know that the AAR isn't closing completely. Just found that out a day or so ago. I thought it was BUT, even tho I took it outta line the idle still doesn't go down wacko.gif

It's things like this that make me wanna sell it. plus the G Damn'd smoke.......... (phuk'nthangpissantsheitmeister)
whew cool_shades.gif got me outta breath on dat one smoke.gif
