Driving the 914 yesterday & noticed a lot of smoke on decel after going thru a 20mph "S" at 35+ and then decelerated to the stop sign. Quite a bit of smoke too <_<

Then, on down the road, there were episodes where I deceled to the stop lights and no smoke along with other times when there was a little.

What gives? Anyone explain this???

thanks........ b

I have attributed the smoking on decel to valve guide wear and poor sealing of the valve guide seals. There is a large amount of vacuum under decel and it can pull oil from inside the rocker area if there is a big guide to valve stem clearance and/or missing/brittle/worn out valve stem seals. DLee

my second hand engine does the same thing bruce. watch the oil level, don't run it up so high and back off. save the money for head work and the rest of the crap you (we'll) need. that honda down payment is looking to be about the same ammount, isn't it?

OK, thanks guys wink.gif I s'pose head work is quite costly???

Is $1000 the area I'd be looking at for 2.0 heads?

Would like to do myself but I have NO idea what's involved & prolly don't have the right/proper tools.
