Wow. You said guess, and that is what is was. I knew it was not from a four, and that was the only thing I could think of that a six had that a four didn't

This might be a dumb question, but what did this hand throttle do on a six? Was this the crew control switch? John

Poor-man's cruise control
It's so you can keep the idle up until the car warms up. I wish I had one on my 914/4 when it had carbs...I may get one for the 6 conversion if I go carbs....actually I'd like one for my 356 too, idle is low when cold and high when warm.

Wonderful addition to your line!
I would love to get one for my conversion as it is helpful when getting the beast to run when cold. Either that or an automatic throttle blipping device to keep it running until it warms up!!!!!!
BTW, they do work pretty well as a poor man's cruise control.

Those look awesome Mark. Glad mine works, but good to know there's a source if something happens - or if I need to replace the bracket or something.

Built-up 2.4's with MFI really benefit from these. Based on my sample size of 1 (and the lack of an installed MFI thermostat).

Mark,
Any chance that you have a supply of the 914-6 black throttle knobs? I keep painting a red heater knob black, but it hasn't worked well. The red knobs are plentiful but I can't find a black one.

Since you are working on something new, would you consider making the "silent bloc" that is NLA and holds or doesn't hold in my case, the hard top down in back. All of the used ones are rotting out.

Mark the position of the shift rod
This will be the easy way to meet the right position in the reassembling phase
Loosen the screw and pull out the shift rod
Now remove the 3 screws from the shifter and pull out the shifter
Remove the black knob from the lever arm
Mikey914
Jun 6 2012, 03:52 PM
Slide the lever arm through the front slot on the shifter bracket

Jun 6 2012, 03:55 PM
Install the bracket for the push rod
Be sure that’s the bracket is in place like the picture shows

So would a 4 benefit from one of these?
The front of the shifter base on a tailshifter trans has a slot so I'm guessing Porsche used the same shifter on the 4 and 6. Would be cool to mount the extra lever for the oil slick/tire spike door or maybe the afterburners.
Mikey914
Jun 6 2012, 03:57 PM
After removing the front cap of the push rod place the shifter and the lever arm
back in place.
Be sure that the bracket in is the right position the bore of the shifter bracket must meet the bore of the bracket and the small pin in the lever arm bracket must fit the small bore in the shifter bracket.
At this point you must also thread the push rod front end in the bore
of the installed bracket.

Reassembling your shifter with the shift rod
Push the end cap over the front end of the push rod.
Be sure that you have tightened all screws!

Sorry,
Yes there is no reason you couldn't use these in that application. It simply "preloads" the throttle cable.

Pretty certain that there are already double the number of original 6's in conversions if not more...

Jul 11 2012, 07:31 AM
I think this only one detail.
The most conversions are not complete
The most have the original -4 igniton swtich and other missing details.
The most converisions I have seen had the following missing -6er parts:
1. Hand throttle
2. OE headers
3 .6er steering rack/ignition switch
4. 6er water bottle
and other -6 parts.
In Europe it is harder to identify a conversion because in a 72er 6er
they used #3 and #4 from the -4
