Good start for a spec boxster track car.

Dead engine! .... "needs work" is why, you're buying a 16 year old shell.

New engine costs more then the car is worth....

Performance Chassis makes a plate to mount a Subi on the Boxter Transmission.

Subi's are around 1k

I checked on motors when I had my Boxster. (just in case...) They were about $6k in junkyards and $10k+ at dealer.
A rebuild at a local shop might be cheaper.

But at that price range I bet you could do a V8. That would be awesome. I didn't know about that stuff back then.

Check this out. I'd do it if I didn't already have a 914

That's what I was thinking idea.gif

How difficult is it to get a '76 or later year car with a non-standard (Subaru) engine smog-checked in CA?

$600 at the pick and pull. No bellhousing or axle adapters needed. Fab motormounts and off you go.

What did that come out of?

The engine is out of the V8 quattro. The tranny is from an A6, but the external design is identical to the boxster.

Oh, and $600 was for both the engine and tranny.
