Full Version: OT: Neighbors in My Apt Building Are Fighting

iiibdsiil
Well, my neighbors in my apt building were fight today. I heard what I personally believe to be a smack, and then her start crying. I had the cops come by once, about 2 weeks ago, and they asked me if I heard any crying, like a baby or something. I didn't, but, I kept an ear open. Finally, today, I heard them going at it. I grabbed a glass out of my kitchen, and stuck it to the wall. The slap was audible through the wall, my building is 3 years old, not like they are paper thin. I was listening, heard her crying, and I could definitely tell it wasn't a baby. About 10 minutes later, they were yelling again, so I put the cup back to the wall, and I heard spanish.

So, I hear their door open, so I wait like 5 seconds before I open my door, and they were booking out of there, not running, just walking pretty fast. He didn't look back, but she did, and she had the look like "Please help me" or a "I am really scared" or whatever.

What should I do? I am scared to confront them about it. And, I don't know that I want to get the cops involved, although that is probably the best thing. The guy on the other side of them has been there for a week, and he has heard it before also. And I am assuming the guy before called the cops, because I know it wasn't me.

I don't want to have problems, and I have absolutely no respect for people that are going to hit females. Especially when she is 5'5"ish and you are about 5'10".

So once again, what should I do?
Aaron Cox
you sell your 30k truck and put them through therapy wink.gif

but for reals: call the cops...hes scum, put him away,
iiibdsiil
That's what I think. But, I know the frigin cops are going to get there, and she will be like "Everything is fine" and yada yada yada. God, that pisses me off.

BTW, I am pretty sure the truck is going back home and I am getting a loan so I can buy what I want. They can do whatever they want with it.
nebreitling
call the damn cops anyway. call them everytime you here shit. eventually, she may get the courage to press charges.
fiid
If you are it is beyond reasonable doubt that that he his hitting her, call teh cops.

If there is anything more you can do to verify it, I would do that first, just because if you do somehow have the wrong end of the stick (He might be breaking stuff - which ain't great; but it isn't hitting her; it may not be a crime) then he or she could end up with stuff on their records that cannot be erased and is not real.

I know of people who have "Investigated for child abuse" on their record because the son joked to a teacher about being hit by his mom (he actually had just fallen over while they were ruffhousing). It was all investigated and found to be clear, but that will stay on her record.

I would try and talk to her about it when he's not around. She probably needs someone to talk to anyway.
iiibdsiil
I would love to talk to her. But, I have lived here for 2 months, and this was the first time I have seen them. I am in and out of my apt quite a bit too. I wouldn't have any idea when they are home, let alone her. But, if I get the chance, I will talk to her.
iiibdsiil
I heard a slap, and I heard crying. I am 99% sure it was him hitting her, but, for all I know, he could have slapped the counter with a leather belt and scared her.

Man, that look she gave me though, it just makes me all that much more sure. mad.gif

You're other alternative, which I don't recomend. You should never take the law into your own hands. Wait for him to walk out of his apartment, and hit him over the head with a pillowcase full of doorknobs. Pin a note to his chest saying, stop hitting her. If he ever comes to, he'll stop hitting her. No, better to just call the cops everytime.

I wish the gun laws were a little more relaxed. I would love to walk out there with a couple friends, my 9 mm, and just pin him in the corner and make him poop himself. But, that probably wouldn't be the smartest thing to do...

18 years old with a hand gun walking around, yeah, I don't think the cops would like that. Good thing in FL I am allowed to transport it around though.

i had a similar issue. my white trash neighbor (cheesy bike builder) and his wife (MILF!!!) moved in next door. i gave him a wave one day and he gave me the bird. i mowed his lawn one day to be nice, and he gave me a look. he beat his wife oneday...i was in the backytard....she was screaming..lemme go etc... i called cops from their front doorstep. cops got there and he split. she was covering for him too. saying he didnt live there etc...

he was arrested for other charges....and as he was being hauled away, i watched him in the squad car...really tempted to give him the bird :finger2:
seanery
Look, call the cops....if for nothing else than disturbing the peace. He'll either stop or they'll eventually move because the cops come by so often.
I'd call them as often as you think it happens. We had a situation in my neighborhood when a 45-50 year old guy went off the deep end on a mid-life crisis. Neighbors say it started around Y2K time (I was still in LA, so I didn't see it). Last year one of his crackhead whores actually walked into my house. Since then we called the police anytime something weird was going on over there. We got to know the officers pretty well. Eventually he was arrested on an unrelated issue and sentenced (his sentence was suspended) but he missed a trial day for something else so they locked him back up again. We talked to the regular cops and they told us to keep calling everytime we saw anything.

What you are doing by calling isn't a nuisance to the police. It's what they do, so don't hesistate to call if it's going on.
iiibdsiil
The last thing I want is the damn cops to be here, and have him walk up and see me talking to them.

What would happen, if say, I got her over, got her to talk, and I recorded the conversation without her knowledge... And I got her to admit that he was hitting her and what not? Would that stand up in court?
John Kelly
These days cops are better trained for this stuff than they used to be. Be a hero and call them every time. Some wife-beaters end up beating a woman to death. Someone has to step up, and you are it. Wife-beaters are bullies. Bullies are cowards. You can do it.

I say we get the local Tampa Bay chapter of the 914Club together and go open a can of whoop-ass on his front door.!!!

Very well said Mr. Kelly.
iii, you have knowledge of what you believe to be a crime. The law obligates you to report this crime. Besides, it is the right thing to do. Police officers are VERY cautious about domestic disputes, and consider them one of the most dangerous calls they go on. Accordingly, DO NOT confront the neighbors yourself, but DO report it.
URY914
You're right. Call 911 next time. Thats what it is there for.
POS needs to spend some time being someone bitch in the big house.

It's easy, and yes you can do it. I've done it. Just tell the dispatcher that you don't want the neighbors to know who the complaint came from, and also you don't want the cops to knock on your door.. that if they want to talk with you after they talk with the neighbors, they should call you on the telephone after they talk with the neighbors. Repeat that to the dispatcher. But next time it happens, get on the phone right away. It's easy. The system works. No worries, mate.
IanStott
If the lady was my daughter for example I would thank you very much for calling the police, if you didn't I would wonder why somebody didn't call. You are in an awkward position, but please don't become paralyzed, call the police and ask them what you should do. idea.gif

Yeah, I talked to a cop, he said that I can call it in anonymously, and it would be better to wait until next time, so at least she is hysterical and what not.

So, when that time comes, I will call.

Thanks for the support guys. I just don't want to end up on some predators list, so the 9 mm will be loaded and out at all times now, until this little dispute is over. If he is hitting her, and he finds out I almost had him put in jail, why wouldn't he beat the crap out of me, ya know?
URY914
Remove that "Young and dumb" title from your profile.

We don't think that and you shouldn't either.

Paul
iiibdsiil
Gimme a better one...

I'm sure you or ACox can come up with something funny.

That was there before that whole thing too. It was my way of letting ya'll know I am young, and so hopefully that would buy me some leverage when I don't know something, or spit out a wrong answer.

Okay, some may not agree..but...

Next time you hear shit, put on your BEST black gear, get a good ski mask and a REALLY heavy, good piece of hickory and go quietly knock on the door and when he answers (and he will, these assholes always answer the door) clock him. Beat the living tar out of him and while he's laying there writhing on the floor, tell him how old you. Let him know you will definitely out live him and for the rest of HIS life he had better not lay a hand on a woman again.

Just my course of action...not that it's based in reality or anything idea.gif ...19 years of growing up in South Dallas...you figure it out smile.gif

I like that idea, but seeing as how he lives right next to me, and the guy on the other side is pushing 40, I think he would figure it out real fucking fast.

Maybe I could knock him out, then piss on him. He will wake up wondering what the frick happened, and I will have to start watching my back.

This would be especially helpful if you were wrong. Nothing like crashing into a house with a gun playing John Wayne.

Sorry, but that's the dumbest idea/fantasy I've heard. It's scary to me that people think like this AND have guns. Holy shit. Insane. blink.gif

I figured that. Especially coming from you, since you are keeping up the keep the doors locked thing. It's all good. I can take it, most of the time. Knowing me, I just get pissed off one day, tell ya'll to fuck off, and never come back.

Or, I'll just go away for a couple months and hope everone forgets. Lol.

Or, probably neither, just take it like a good little bitch. wink.gif

This is a very serious subject and very close to my heart. My cousin Roberta had a beater for a husband. She did what all women in her mind set with a small child do. She worked to change the guy. Women in this kind of relationship are trapped. They say things like, He's not really like that, and it was my fault for making him angry. She eventually filed for divorce and gave him the boot. She felt bad and let him back in the house to live even with a restraining order. She regreted doing it but she was afraid he would take her son and run if she didn't let him stay where she could keep an eye on him. She used to come to my shop and tell me she feared for her life and knew he would kill her some day. She told me once her father was keeping a place for her in heaven. It was late in the evening when my wife and I came home. I check the answering machine. I heard my Cousin Al's voice. He said, Rick, I don't know how to say this so I'm going to just leave you this message. Bobbi's Husband killed her today. Her husbands parents returned with her son after an all day outing. They were early. They weren't supposed to arrive for another couple of hours. Bobbi greeted them at the door, invited them in, and ran down the basement to get the laundry. Her husband was hiding in the basement as he hacked her to death with a maschetti her 3 yr old son came running down the stairs behind her and witnessed the whole thing. Then this loser ran past his parents covered in her blood, out the front door and down to the freeway where he jumped infront of a speeding bus.

I loved her dearly.

Call the cops every time. Please sad2.gif

I am sorry that happened. I am calling the cops next time, for sure.

Call the cops everytime you hear something. Don't try and be a hero or you could end up being a dead hero. The police are trained to deal with these problems and they are armed. Your not and he might be.

Call them and if he figures it out (that you called) and confronts you about it, call them again. He's a croward.

I second this. This is not a circumstance in which to vasilate on whether to act or not. If you think she is being beaten you call the police. If you hear him in a rampage and think he MIGHT be ABOUT to hit her CALL THE POLICE. Do that girl a favor and get the police there before he lays into her. I know you're scared, but when you hear that crap going on you need to think about how scared that girl is and then pull yourself up and be a man. I say that as words of encouragement, not reprimand. We all spend our lives thinking about what we'd do in various "SHTF" circumstances. We try to tell ourselves that we'll hold the line and do the right thing. You unfortunately find yourself in one of those very situations right now and it's time for the rubber to hit the road. Do the thing that you can look back on with no regrets. That means getting the police involved when you think that girl is in harms way. Do not spend the rest of your life remebering that you let a woman get beat because you were afraid of the guy doing the beating. That would not be a fond memory to live with.

I don't expect you to get any more involed than calling the police to report what you see/hear, but if the police aren't there yet and you believe the girl is in mortal danger I sincerly hope you would put your fear aside and do something to intervene.

I said "You unfortunately find yourself in one of those situations", but you could turn that around and say that it's forutnate that you are in this situation because you are going to make sure that it's a good thing you were there and not someone else who stood idly by and did nothing.

Good luck and stay safe.
