So I rec'd this flyer from Laguna Seca last week.
An offer to buy a Brick for their new Pathway, WITH engraving of course!

Wouldn't it be cool to see a Brick that says something like:

So, what would it take....
50 of us putting up $5/each?
25 x $10?

100 x $5? >> TWO bricks.

Any interest?

Who's gonna collect the donations? Scott?

A 12 x 12 brick with our logo for $500 would be awesome.

Can you imagine how hard this board/forum would be to keep up with with advertising like that?!

Yeah I can 'head this up'/Collect the monies....

although, looking at the flyer again, the Money for the bricks actually goes to a P.O. Box in Boise ID,
though that don't matter to the 914club! smilie_pokal.gif

We need to determine WHAT we want OUR brick to say, besides the club logo that is.

And with the number of members in this club, I don't think it
would be a problem to collect the $500. for the large brick!

Have some ideas for logo/slogan posted here than put them in a survey thread to decide. I still like the "step on it" one smilie_pokal.gif

The suggestion of 4 bricks, spaced appropriatley, with "place jackstands here - 914world.com" turns my crank. wub.gif
gopack
boldblue.gif Oddly enough I like the idea of 4 small bricks placed appropriatly as well! Seems very orriginal. (and we know we are a bunch of non-conformists!).

We need a little guidance and direction?

Where do we send our contributions?
What do we want to put on our brick?

I think the original suggestion of four bricks w/jackstand logo ($2000 contribution) was made somewhat "tongue in cheek", right? IMO, I don't like the idea of four bricks as it definitely would deliver a negative image re: the 914. I know we all work on our cars (some more than others) but four bricks would imply its ALWAYS on the jackstands. Please tell me it ain't so!

Is Laguna Seca a for-profit or non-profit entity?
carreraguy
From the Laguna Seca website:

"The Monterey Peninsula's love affair with world-class racing traces its beginning to 1950 and the inaugural running of the Pebble Beach Road Races. Those sports car events through the winding roads of the Del Monte Forest became immensely popular and brought prestige, fans and money to the area. But as the cars got faster and the crowds grew larger, it was decided that the race was too big for the open road. Rather than see the event, with its fans and financial impact go elsewhere, a group of civic-minded business leaders decided to build a permanent, world-class racing facility.

This was the impetus behind the formation of the Sports Car Racing Association of the Monterey Peninsula (SCRAMP) on November 1, 1956. The NON-PROFIT group's mission, which remains unchanged today, is to benefit local charitable and non-profit organizations and to promote the economic vitality of Monterey through motorsports events. The group leased Fort Ord land from the Army, built the circuit and staged its first race on November 9, 1957.

Since that day, events at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca have generated more than $1 billion in revenue for area businesses, while providing over $10 million for more than 100 charitable and civic groups. Today, SCRAMP is the most important economic and charitable organization in Monterey County."

Enough chatter, lets do it. Give us two or three verbage options, take a vote, and let us know where to send the $.

914s have a great racing heritage. We need to leave our mark at Leguna Seca!

Yeah I'm still interested in heading up the 914club's Brick at Laguna Seca.

SORRY for the delay, but I've NOT been on my home computer in two weeks, and I rec'd a little talking-to from my new employer about how much time I spend online.... doing non-work stuff ohmy.gif wink.gif

Ok, so WE need to figure out what we want our Brick or Bricks to say.

I will start a NEW poll about what we want on our Brick.

Regarding the monies, I'm almost sure the Laguna Seca people will Not want to take individual monies, especially since the money goes to a P.O. Box in Boise ID, though we can order over the phone or online.

Regarding the Amount of money, my personal opinion is that we should Not have a minimum, well, other than $5.00 I mean.
Increments of anywhere from $5.00 and Up.....

Having just gone 13 1/2 months withOUT an income, I know how difficult it can be to Want-To participate in something like this, but you just can't financially.

I'm sure there will be multiple people who will Never be able to visit Laguna Seca in person, and thus will be UNable to see the club's Brick.
IF that person can only donate $5.00, that's fine with me. (Rant over)

Let me try to create a poll about the TEXT and the NUMBER of Bricks we want.
