When I bought my new 914 the PO suggested I look into getting Turbo Tie Rods...
What exactly will I accomplish by getting these?
worthwhile upgrade?
Lots of questions, newbie here!!!!

They're tie rods with little turbochargers on them. (Just kidding) They are the tie rods from the 911 turbos, and they have some sort of stiffer bushing in them vs. the rubber that's stock. They basically make your steering more precise and direct. I don't have them.. someday maybe

Steel ball joints instead of rubber, I believe. It is a very common upgrade. Need them? Probably not. If my stock steering ever feels mushy, then I will put them in.

The stock tie rod has a rubber mounted universal joint where it attaches to the rack, the turbo tie rods have a ball joint. Rubber flexes, metal doesn't*. Result? Tighter steering because there isn't rubber flexing.
* Yes, I know metal does flex.

If your current rod ends are worn out (and if they are original they are worn out), it then makes most sense to replace the entire assembly with turbo tie rods. Costs very little more and makes a major improvement. You're going to need an alignment in either case.
