I noticed that Sir Andy had his 1.8 with a d-jet in the ads.
Is there an advantage over running with the stock L-jet
in a '74? I did'nt see anything on this topic in "search".

Thanks,
rezron

better availability for parts ...
easier to diagnose, not quite as sensitive to vacuum leaks as the l-jet ...

on the otherhand, even the factory workshop manual describes L-jet as the "more modern FI system". parts are available since everyone has a hard time diagnosing L-jet and are switching to carbs laugh.gif . if vacuum leaks are a problem, just fit new hoses! ever try to find a new D-jet Aux Air Regulator? how about the price of a new or rebuilt MPS? L-jet was used on VW buses, even as late as '83 air cooled ones (vanagon). i like the guy who has a 2.0L fitted with L-jet.

i dunno. i have seen D-Jet parts and complete sets by the hundreds, but i have only seen 3 or 4 L-Jet systems (and they were all on running cars) ...

the production numbers speak against the l-jet ...

I've done the reverse, i installed an L-let from my old 1.8 onto a slightly higher compression 2.0, ran great with 0 problems (and then I took the car apart and it's never been the same, LOL)

Only the 1.8 914s had the L-jet which would explain the rarity of them....Porsche used the L-jet again on the '76 912E which had a 2.0 /4 motor in it....and after that, variations of the L-jet have been put on thousands and thousands of cars...even my '91 911 has a tweaked/improved version of the original L-Jet

I believe my 928 is running a version of l-jet. The l-jet in my 914 runs perfect, just keep those hoses in good condition!

I have 1.8 with L-Jet, my Fox had L-Jet, my old van had L-jet it is no easier or harder to diagnose than any other EFI. Don't change unless you are going for high HP with carbs.

That's because they work fine. I have no problem (ooops, should I knock on wood for that one) with mine. rolleyes.gif
