Is there any speakers that fit optimal in the stock 914 kickpanel speaker boxes?

Autobahn has a pair of 4" x 6" 2 way that look like they might fit.

I already have "cut door panles with old 6" speakers so I was looking at placing speakers in the door panels and in the kick panels or picking up those custom kick panels that hold a larger speaker...6 " I think.

There's gotta be someone out there who has done this so I don't have to engineer the project from the ground up.

Don't put speakers in the doors, it's a terrible environment for speakers. Morpenspectra sells nice speaker boxes that take round speakers in the stock location. They come without a hole, so they'll fit any speaker around that size. You can also get them with a blaupunkt speaker installed if you don't want to cut a hole. They're fiberglass.

I got a pair of those customer kick panels made by one of our own in here...put 6" blaupunkts in them. They are very very very cool speaker enclosures, perfect fit...look like the ones that should have been put in by the factory.

Get the 6.5" panels made in the 914 products section on this site. I might go that route and I have Infinity Kappa 4x6" plates now (about the best you could do w/o cutting up your doors before morphenspectra)

But.....he already does have 'cut up' door panels.

The door a terrible environment for speakers??? Properly prepared, and since he does already have holes cut in, doors are a PERFECT place for speakers. The bass response from the door enclosure wll blow away anything you could ever get from the kick panels, ergo the reason for the sub unit that is sold with Morphenspectra stuff.

Rob, if you really want to use 4 speakers, you should consider doing separates and using the door panels as bass enclosures and the kickpanels for mid/hi range speakers.

Anything that goes into that kick panel should be crossed at no less than 150 MHz. That's why in the Morphenspectra kit the sub enclosure goes in the center of the car interior. The worst thing I think you could do is put 4 identical speakers in there and expect it to sound good.

Reasons I don't like door speakers:

1. Water gets back there, no matter how good your seals are

2. Way too many things in a door to rattle

3. The enclosed volume is to large for the size of speaker you can fit

4. You'll never get the enclosed volume sealed well

Of course this is just my opinion, you can do watever you like.

Agreed, I spent a FORTUNE on top of the line Infinity's in the stock speaker grills on my last teener.

It sounded like shit.

Now, I bought the aftermarket speaker panels. I installed a set of Infinity Kappa 5.25 Component speakers. The grill to the speaker is 6.5 inches, so it loks 100% PERFECT.

Plus, I installed the 1-inch tweeters in the doors, but they are surface mounted, so the only holes are for the wire, and the screws to secure the tweeters..... no hole for the speakers.

I mounted the crossovers under the glovebox using some heavy duty double sided tape.

Just my suggestion.. I'm happy with it.

Even though you can't seal a door very well, most 6.5 speakers are designed to be used in a large open area. If you go with door speakers, use x-mat or dyna-mat or any of the sound deadening materials available and cover the entire side of the door behind the door panel. Wrap all the moving parts(the rods that open and lock/unlock the doors etc.) with a plastic bag or something to allow them not to stick to the adhesive. It helps tremendously with the bass response, and to keep things from rattling.
