Got the engine running after a bit of work and a little cash, not to bad considering when I bougth the car I didn't count on the engine being any good. Only cruised around the block but it sure was fun and I was very surprised at the power even with the 1.7, engine seems strong.

I had to unplug the intake air temperature sensor I think it is refered to as temperature sensor 1. It was surging at idle but with it unplugged it idled ok. Still has some hesitation at start off but once the RPMs get up its great. Just some fine tuning.

Now it's on to the breaks. Took the pedal cluster out and going to replace the bushings, brake pedal is not springing back. Brakes were pretty mushy to so I think I will go through the whole system.

I'm just glad to hear you got your Porch running.

Congatulations! I just got mine on the road a little over a week ago. Mine sat in a garage for 17 years. The brake system was probably the most time consuming part. I had to rebuild all of the calipers which was not nearly as easy as I had hoped. I'm still doing much of the "fine tuning" myself. Since I've never driven a 914 before this one, I'm really not sure how close to done I am with the engine. Anyway, good luck, and enjoy!

Pic of the pedal cluster still in the car. Got it pulled after a little work on the clutch cable. Was not a ball and socket connection, it was a pin and clevis and very hard to get at. Also I had some brake fluid leakage from the master cylinder after I pulled the cluster. Is this normal? The pelican tech article didn't mention that.
