Run of the mill hood pins are too large in diameter to fit back there. Does anyone know where to find GT engine lid pins? I don't need original pins, just something that will meet the form, fit, function.

I bought a pair of their hood pins for my car. they were aluminum, and less than 10 bucks a pair IIRC. I made my own backing plates from cardboard templates, and got the pull pins from McMaster-Carr. Probably 40 bucks tops in the job.
It's a typical weekend job.
