The only reason I am selling this car is because I'm a new dad, and this is possibly the least-practical automobile one could have for toting around a baby (not to mention, negligent, right?).
IMPORTANT: I WILL NOT REPLY TO ANY INQUIRY THAT DOES NOT INCLUDE A PHONE NUMBER AND SOMETHING DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE AD -- NO TIME FOR SCAMMERS!
This is a well-maintained 1972 Porsche 914/4. It has been modified, but not in any way that inhibits daily-driveability. Note the Massachusetts license plates. I just this past summer drove this car from Cape Cod to San Francisco almost entirely on back roads, via Montreal, Chicago, Salt Lake City and Truckee. It's ready to roll, exceptionally reliable, and a hoot to drive.

Mileage indicated: approx 140,000. I have owned this car since 1999. I believe there were just short of 40k on the odometer at this time. I purchased it from a man named Peter, who was a Porsche factory technician from Germany. It was his wife's car, purchased new from Commonwealth VW / Porsche in Cambridge, Massachusetts. I know what you're thinking: this is just another rat New England car... But it's far, far, far from that. Read on:

THE DETAILS
DRIVETRAIN
• Engine: approx. 40k on the blue-printed NOS 2.0 Liter crate engine (genuine Porsche).
• Heads: Genuine 3-stud Porsche 2.0 heads, ported, with big sodium-filled valves and custom hardened valve seats by the late Bob "Boston Bob" Donalds.
• Counter-balanced crank & Web-Cam Performance camshaft (Lift: .423, Duration: 270º)
• Hydraulic lifters are truly maintenance-free. No adjustments necessary.
• Dual Del'lorto DRLA 40 carbs -- properly jetted and calibrated (with new Triad West custom linkage, which is awesome)
• BOSCHE .050 distributor and Pertronix Igniter II point-less ignition. NO dreaded .009 • Lightened flywheel, Thread-in brass galley plugs throughout entire engine (no worries for popping the originals and losing your oil pressure)
• Has run Mobil 1 Synthetic oil since break-in period. Oil pressure at cold idle: 60psi, at hot idle, after hours on the freeway: 20-25psi.
• Head temp rarely exceeds 350º under normal driving conditions, even in 100º temps. Fully-functioning cooling system.
• Stainless Steel heat exchangers and custom Triad West dual-outlet muffler (mellow sound, great power, no raspy noise)
• Upgraded to later-model "side-shifter" transaxle. Holds all gears, shifts as smooth as a 914 is capable of. New bushings (including the firewall) in 2006.
• Clutch & Pressure Plate replaced in 2006, are both in fine working order.
SUSPENSION, BRAKES, WHEELS:
• KONI "yellow" adjustable shocks all around
• Tarret custom front adjustable sway bar
• Eibach springs on adjustable perches in the back (can't recall the weight, but I think they are 150#)
• 930 Tie-rods
• BMW 320 A-T-E calipers up front (40% more pad surface area!) and OEM rotors.
• Rear brakes completely rebuilt 2 years ago.
• 911 Master Cylinder, Stainless steel flex lines front & rear, bias professionally adjusted.
• Wheels: super-rare Revolution RFX 15x7" rims. Super light for low un-sprung weight and fast turn-in. (these wheels fit under stock rear fenders but offer a very wide contact patch)
• Tires: Michelin Pilot Exalto All-Season performance tires (these are "sensible" tires, suitable for dry/rain - quiet, long life, great heat dissipation).

INTERIOR
• Mostly stock / original interior, showing some wear in the carpets and seats.
• Dash is in great condition: no cracks or dry-rot (having been garage-kept all its life).
• This is the last of the 914's with real glass covering the gauges.
• Center console with after-market VDO gauges (oil pressure, oil temp, and head temp)
• Sony detachable-face CD player, Boston-Acoustics speakers behind stock grilles. Electric antenna.
• Ultima "red" gel battery -- no battery acid to worry about.
• New Old Stock, directly from Porsche's warehouse in Germany (more on that later), windshield-to-top seal. This part is supposedly no longer available, unless you know the right people!

EXTERIOR
• Recent (three years ago) repaint in single-stage factory "Saturn Yellow" by KTR European Motorsports in Ayer, MA. (Look them up to understand that KTR is no ordinary shop)
• No door dings, scratches, scuffs or damage on side panels or fenders -- paint job is beautiful!
• Solid "Hell Hole"

IN THE INTEREST OF FULL DISCLOSURE
• Some rust was repaired by KTR (see above): 914 had some rocker panel and heater-channel rust, which was completely removed and re-fabricated (have all photos to document work)
• Because I knew I was going to be driving this car X-Country, I opted to not have the hood / trunk lid / windshield cowl & frame painted with the rest of the car. Good thing, because on the 4800 mile trip, the hood got chipped up from flying pebbles on Route 20 in Wyoming (dang 100 mile construction zone)... For my asking price, I will have these painted by local Porsche specialist (have paint from the rest of the car)
• In 2001, I was rear-ended (less than 5mph) by someone while creeping along in traffic in Lowell, MA. Superficial damage (have photos) was limited to a cracked tail light, torn rear bumper pad, and bumper. The sheet metal behind the tail light was pushed in slightly, but not enough to even damage the trunk lid or fender. I opted to have the bumper professional straightened and re-chromed (by NuChrome in Fall River, MA), because the available replacements were cheap and thin. Chrome still looks new 11 years later.
• Windshield washer pressure valve in steering column sprung a leak about five years ago. Easy enough to fix, but I haven't gotten around to it. I guess I've preferred to not drive the car in gross weather.
• Speedometer reads about 5mph over, on account of the larger-diameter wheels and tires, so mileage is actually lower than indicated. This wheel/tire combo has been in place since about 2006, I think.
• Front bumper is original, so it's got some 'character'. Fog lamps were replaced with NOS units fitted for modern halogen bulbs in 2006.

So, I think that covers the basics. This is a wonderful road car. The X-Country trip this summer (14 days) was trouble-free and it's ready to drive back across country again. You'll only need a few miles to understand that this 914 is different from many others currently for sale online. The mods have been carefully thought out, with an emphasis on reliable, low-vibration, cool-operation.
It also happens to go like hell and corners like a house fly.
If you're interested, please email me and include your questions about the car -- and your phone number -- and I'll send you more high-resolution photos.
There will be no joy rides; I'll accompany you for the test drive.
Again, only because we have an infant and I seldom drive the car in the city am I selling my beloved 914. The most challenging part of this will be clicking the "Post Ad" button...
