Have a '71, 1.7. I do not like the concept of the oil bath air filter. Any viable alternatives? Have seen those where they stick a K&N filter on the end of a piece of PVC pipe. Guess they work but don't like the idea of the filter being exposed to the elements.

get a later style 1.7L air filter with the paper element, similar housing as the oil-bath but uses a paper element ...

Better than what the PO fab'd....consisted of some paper heater hosing, and silicone all over the place...here's a pic:

Never had a problem with mine, once I figured it out. Autocrossing it sometimes made it puke some oil.

Now the K&N 's sitting on the 40 IDF's will present thier own set of problems. w00t.gif
