The front flares on this car look interesting, a bit more rounded, 911 like almost.

Andy has posted this pic a couple of times, does anyone know anything about this car?

I know nothing about that car, but here is one the is for sale with those type of flares all around. Flared 914

I *think* the fronts are off an old VW rabbit. Someone was doing that. Can't recall if it was this car or not, but it looks right.
The rears were off a 911?

It would have to be an "old" rabbit as that looks to be a period photo. Rabbit's didn't hit the streets until 75.

Also, steel bumper car with an interesting cow-catcher in front of the oil cooler. Maybe GMS knows a little more about it.

I think the first car is showing a non invasive oil cooler with no valance.
That was how I have seen it done frequently to stay in the non cutting of body class...
Just hang it down in front...no valance.

Yeah... cow catcher. The thing bolted to the front bumper and valance. May have to change the contrast on your monitor to see it.

Rich nailed it. It's the mounting frame for the front oil cooler.

Instead of cutting the car and putting the cooler into the front trunk, the oil cooler is simply mounted under the front bumper.
This was a pretty common way of running an external oil cooler back in the day.

Anyone notice how that lead car is a good 3" lower than the teener behind? Very cool.

I don't think that's a mounting frame for the cooler. It's some tubing to protect it from being bumped.

I think that's just body roll and he's deeper into the corner.

Or the GT behind him is accelerating out of the corner in anticipation of passing him

Thats a Kremer built 914-6, then crashed hard and rebuilt, eventually ending up in the US.

My Bad their is 2 914 like that from back in the day.

I've always wondered if there was an elegant way to do an external front oil cooler....this is not it

Just because you cut a big hole in the front and mount the cooler a few inches back doesn't mean it's any more protected.


Either way you would need some sort of mesh to cover the inlet hole or in this case the cooler under the bumper.

The first US owner was told that the flares on the green and red (John Forbes - 914 043 0870) car were said to be from a Ford Transit from the late 60s.
