on the surface it just seems that the rotors need to be drilled for the 5 lug studs...what am I missing?

You can just drill the hubs, but its not the recommended way.
I'm running 911 rear hubs and rotors with Swayaway axles. In the front I am just running 911 3.5" struts. I then used Boxster adapters to use Boxster brakes front and rear.
I am also using a 911 parking brake.
Drilling the hubs is not as strong as using the stock 911 components. I also don't think its supported for track events, but I could be wrong.
