How should I clean my parts (case, crank, rods, etc.) after they come back from the machine shop?

Tom Wilson's book says to use soap and water, but I can't find any other guidance.

I know this is a very basic question, but I'd rather look foolish than do something wrong.

In Jake's video, he sprays them with carb cleaner and then wipes them with a lint free rag or blows them down with compressed air.
