And no, I am not tring to get personal.
I have a 75 914 with a 2.0l engine. I think that my oil level may be to high at least by the dip stick marks. Ok, my oil tube that the dip stick goes in stands about 3.5" above where it enters the block. The dip stick is about 13.75 " long from the botton to where the retainer cap on it touches the top of the tube. The top mark on the dip stick is 1" from the bottom. When I put oil in it aprox 4 quarts with a new filter the level is about 3" higher than the mark.
I was wondering if the wrong dip stick is being used or the marks are wrong or should I just go by the marks.
Thanks
Mark
The reason I ask is that I have oil comming from some where and I don't know if it is over filled

Mark, I tried to answer twice on the bird but couldn't get through then I saw your question here. My '73 2.0L dipstick is about the same length. My two marks are 1/4" apart with the lower mark being 7/8" up from the bottom. The upper mark is 1 1/8" up. If your oil level is 3 1/2" up that sounds like too much oil.

Thanks for the reply. I noticed that some times the bird has it's finger in the air. Strange but it has happened to me also.
Again thanks for the reply. I guess I will emptu the oil and use the dip stick to measure it.
