Can anyone tell me how to go about reinstalling a distributor to an engine that was turned over without the distribuotr installed?

The distributor is offset and so only goes in one way. But when you turned the engine without the distributor the drive gear that goes below the distributor could have jumped. Set the engine at TDC for cylinder #1 (be double sure it's not #3) and then read this thread to reset the drive gear correctly.
