We have our memorial James Montebello "Lapuwali Classic Thread Forum." He was instrumental in bringing us many priceless helpful how-to's. His forum seems to be a mix of everthing.
I just thought maybe if we had a special place just for autobody stuff like welding panels, dent repair and other stuff like proper prep methods and speciality products it may be of interest.

I should have titled the post Any Interest in starting a "Claissic Post" autobody forum.
My idea would be the same as James' forum but helpful information for body repair.
I think I will change the title.

Sounds good to me Rick! I could add stuff as I do them as well. Im not the best but hey its something
If all of the body guys add a little "how to's" now and then it'll really be a great resource. Even the normal stuff like "proper ways to mix and thin plastic filler" "Proper procedure for sanding" "Welding on body panels" ect.

I would love to see this happen. I am a junky for this type of content, and to have it in a condensed form would be fantastic.
Not to take anything away from the great works of others, but I think that Dana's Anklebiter thread should be #1.

I'm likely making a suggestion that will cause our moderators a butt load of work to set up. I kind of just posted this without any consideration for the guys that would have to set things up. So, It was just an idea. I needed a mental break from working and just started typing...

We have a build thread section for great works like Dana's car. My suggestion was a section with short project samples showing how-to's.

I think that I like that even more, but would that not fall into the "tech article" category? That area of the site seems to have been a bit forgotten, and could use this type of content, IMHO.

I like the idea of a fabrication/special project orientated which places emphasis on how to do certain type jobs which relates to auto body/skills/techniques/etc. It would give a common focus to many of us who do love project building on the 914 chassis.
These types of skills and knowledge on "how to do, auto body, sheetmetal, etc" are important to the ones who want to totally become involved in their projects, and learn how to do things the proper way.
Move forward on this idea.

Great idea.
Keep each post to one topic with a descriptive title and it will be easier to find
the info you are looking for, i.e. "welding on flares" "replacing a rear trunk"
"drilling out spot welds"

This is a great idea gents. I personally would like to see it broken down by individual sections of the car. I.e., fender repair, headlight bucket repair, etc. Can you tell what areas I need to work on next?

Did I remember to post the picture of the wad of newspaper dated 1997 which was behind a bondo job I just R&R'd?

I'm not sure I am going to ask the forum gods to set up an Autobody forum. I'm sure it's a lot of messing around. We had 24 posts in like 24 hours and 331 views. Maybe we can just add some of the good tip posts to an existing forum.

I think its a great idea!! I would love to see separate "threads" for problems like "hell hole repair" "GT flairs install" "fender repair" "antenna delete" etc.... Without thumbing through a hole build, restoration thread.

Or Banned members.
Seems there is more interest in drama around here than real nuts and bolts car work.
Less drama
and more work on your cars girls. That's what gets them off the jack stands.
Here's a couple things I was thinking about for a resource forum:
http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?sho...=177942&hl=http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?sho...71994&st=20http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?sho...=177500&hl=I know there are others who have done some nice repairs and documented them. Scotty is going to un-flare a 911 soon. That should be cool.

Excellent recommendation Rick, I would also like to follow Steve's format.
I would like to see a start-to-finish thread for each post, showing the tools, how they were used, before and after photos of the section being repaired. Also, alternative tools for those that don't have the air powered tools. Also, why a tool/approach is recommended.

I'd run it. Let's face it, bodywork is very alien
to many. When your on your own in your garage and faced with a daunting task you have never experienced, it would be nice to have a place where you can search and likely find the issue your trying to work through.
I would contribute. But I would actually want to solicite contributions. I have done a few How-to's in the past but there are some real good in depth repairs that have been posted here by others. I would also look for the threads where guys are asking questions and see if we could target a repair thread to their issue. There are many talented guys here. Some are very specialised in their expertise.
But like I also posted. There seems to be more interest in drama than car work. When a tech thread goes off the first page and a post about banning people gets bumped to the top day after day it's seems we may have to rethink the new forum and just post "How-to's" in the exsiting forums we have.
Besides, I haven't even asked any of the admins if it's even possible. I'm sure they have better things to do than mess around adding another forum topic. My question started as a diversion. I needed a mental break from work.

As a newbie, it would be great if there were more step-by-step procedurals with pics (for both autobody and mechanical). Uncertainty on how to do even one part of a job can be enough to turn off a newbie from undertaking a task. I did a write-up for my 928 TB&WP procedure on Rennlist ("16V OB Timing Belt and Waterpump Procedure with pics"). Although it can be a lot of extra work to take pics and document everything in detail, it's very rewarding knowing you're helping others and contributing to keeping these wonderful cars on the road.

I actually have a slightly revised version with a new chapter on cam o-rings and seals. It's been ready since November but Rennlist has been very slow to get back to me to update the pdf.
I hope you'll be able to get a body work sub forum going. As a newbie, when I posted I hadn't yet found the 'Classics'. Since then I found it and see that there a lot of excellent write-ups
. Autobody write-ups would be a nice addition.
