My '76 2.0 is back from paint and body. Engine is apart and heads are off to rebuilder. One rod bearing spun and the crank is bent by .007". The machine shop says he can
1)straighten it cold but opposed engines are likely to crack,

2)grind it out but it may well bend back when run

3)heat it to 2000 degrees and see if it will straighten , then grind it but the heat will make the grind harder, or

4)heat it to 1500 degrees and a slow cool to see if it will straighten, then grind...

but no guarantees...for less than $150.

Anyone with any experience with these or other choices?

If I have to look for a new crank, can anyone recommend a supplier?

Thanks everybody.

Buy a new one from Jake Raby. Does he still sell parts?

agree.gif Too many good cranks out there for the same price or cheaper, without worrying about the "what if's".
