Bought an ’87 Carrera last month, and need the garage space. This teener is a strong-running, dependable car, with 96,500 miles. A Rocky Mountain car from the start, it was originally purchased in Cheyenne, Wyoming in 1973. Color is Ravenna Green.
All dash and console gauges work; bumpers are excellent, and the body is good. The minor rust in rockers was professionally re-welded and restored with POR-15 and galvanizing in 2007. Rocker covers were replaced in 2007. Hell hole area beneath battery is sound, no rust. Both the front and rear trunks show superficial surface rust. Previous owner sprayed rustproofing onto both trunk floors. Floorpans are solid, no rust. Interior is original, except for radio. Dashboard has one dashboard crack. Windshield is excellent with no cracks/chips. Targa roof in excellent condition. Body in very good condition, with one small rust spot the size of a quarter on bottom of front quarter panel. This has not changed in the seven years I have owned the car.
Mechanically, this two liter car is strong and sound. The original side-shifter linkage, clutch and transmission shift well. Motor burns no oil (though it does have a very minor oil leak). Clutch and brakes are excellent. Bridgestone Potenza tires (195/60R15”); rear tires in excellent condition, front tires in fair condition with wear on inside shoulders. Brakes and clutch are good. Modifications from original include: Web camshaft , Weber carburetor producing great torque for a two liter! Koni Sport adjustable shocks (all four) and new rear springs in 2007 (professionally installed at 89,000 miles). Wheels are “empi” style copies, by American Eagle. The original steel rims are included. Front-end bra included.
Interior is original except for radio. Driver’s seat is damaged and ugly and needs replacing; passenger’s seat is near perfect. Carpet shows typical wear. Wheels need balancing. The professional re-paint is DuPont Imron, and still very shiny, though there are various scratches (the car was originally Revenna Green). Two of the Targa roof gaskets need replacing. The rear valance is bent. Front valance is dented. Radio is not connected to speakers.
Includes original Porsche 914 manual, and most all maintenance records from approximately 2003 forward. I purchased the car in 2006; it has always been garaged and only driven occasionally in summer months. Previous owner also always garaged this car. Its not perfect, but a very good quality example of the 914.
