I made the mistake of visiting the Davidoff store in London wearing a flannel pullover back in 1997 (grunge fashion in the US, US fashion in the UK). I was greeted with such polite condescension that I did not know whether to be honored or offended.

I had never had a Cuban cigar and was keen to try one. The “gentleman” assisting me in my purchase was kind enough to explain to me all of the unique characteristics of the island of Cuba that made their cigars so special, and then sold me the most offensive (and expensive) cigar I have ever smoked. I have since had some very nice Cohibas and Romeos, so I have forgiven Cuba, but not that asshat in London.

With that said, I must commend you on your craftsmanship. That is one beautiful instrument. Please post a video of the sound. I might be inspired to build one.

Thanks guys, working on the video, nothing yet. I have a couple of minor items to address first...

THey are easy to make and you don't even have to smoke the cigars! I don't anyway...

Sweet.

Looks like Tele hardware and a Carvin? style headstock. Nice woodgrain on the headstock and neck. Can't wait to hear how it sounds.

Any interest in selling one of these? Fiddle player for Whistlin Rufus says he wants one. http://www.whistlingrufus.com/

914 content: we'll drive to gigs in my '70 1.7L if I ever get it back together.

If there is any interest, PM me.

I've found that assholes are pretty quick to identify themselves, almost eager. Once you recognize the patterns you can save yourself a lot of grief and wasted time.

Pawn shop guitars that went to heaven.

Check out this video: Seasick Steve. A few years ago I spent a lot of time in the U.K. and this guy played on some TV show. Then for a couple of months he was on every show that had any kind of music segment, people at work asked about him, if we had lots more like him back in the States, playing on every streetcorner. Actually that's a cool idea, give cigar box guitars to panhandlers, let them be creative for their change instead of just pathetic. Anyway, amazing where a cigar box can take you. I never heard of Seasick Steve before and haven't since.

EDIT: Oh my, don't go to YouTube, you'll get caught up. Check out This Lady, see how simple and easy it is to play a rockabilly boogie (hint: it's not). And who doesn't love a good Texas Shuffle?

Very nice!

Did you sand and polish the cigar box or is that how it came?

I miss making guitars and plan to make more archtops when I finish my IMSA car.

Thanks! This is more or less a PRS headstock, the neck shape is by hand. The F holes are cut by hand. The finish is many colored coats of shellac and topped with spray lacquer. Wet sanded to 1500 grit and then rubbed out with compound...It is amazing how quick you can go from bare wood to a high gloss.

Seasick Steve is very cool...we are trying to get him back in the states for a tour..
If you like fooling around, check out www.cigarboxnation.com for other hand made guitars...

The six strings are a pain for me to make, seems to take me forever...that said, I do make them to order. This one is going to Nashville to a side man.. see signature below to contact me about other builds..herb
