Just watched "A Car is Reborn" on Discovery and they said it cost them 85,000 pounds (about $137,190 USD) to rebuild to "new" a E Type Jaguar.
What would it cost to do the same to a 914?

this topic came up before and I think the number was something like $25-$30k.

If I remember, the topic before was what would you pay for a new 914......what I'm wondering is what it would cost to turn your avearage 914 into a"new" show room car. A 100 point car (or what ever there called)
I read Brads build sheet on Julius and it shows parts but no labor....

My guess is WAY more than $25-30K.
I have heard of 356 and early 911 restos in the $50-100K territory, possibly more.
To me, "as new" means that every fastener, wire, decal and so forth is either replaced, or refurbed so its age is not apparent. Same for all the alloy and chrome trim, interior, carpet, on and on.

Spend +30K on a 914 because you love the car but not to make money on it. Put it up for sale after all that work and see how it long it will take you get your money out of it.

I guess this depends on what you start with, who is doing the work, and how "new" you want it. I guess there is like new, new, and better than new. obviously, if you're having shops do all the work it's going to be a huge bill. my uncle has done two '57 chevys back to new status, I think he said he had $125k in each. these are better than new cars which scored very high in concours judging.
