What is the difference between early and late ball joints? Did the mounting to the arm change or the mounting to the strut?

I bought arms with swaybar tabs and need to know what ball joints to buy.

In '72 Porsche went to a wedge pin to secure the ball joint to the strut. It is considered more secure than the earlier style which is a pinch bolt. As noted by Mike, the attachement to the control arm was unchanged.
