KATE, this child is going to kill me...A week ago she decided to widen the garage door with the lexus. Garage won.
Last night she had a discussion with a deer on the way home. She won but the deer got in some licks. Front fender, both doors, mirror.... It even poked its head in the window as it went down the driver side of the car... FREAKED her out. And of course Miss Sheryl called the cops and the Paramedics sooooo, we had three fire trucks and a cop for a dead deer!!!! By the way, lexus again and opposite side of car. Also Three weeks ago she had a small mishap backing out of a parking spot.
So the report goes. Passenger side fender, front bumper, rear bumper, driver side front fender, driver side doors and rear veiw mirror. All this on a 2002 lexus IS300!!!!!!! all this in three weeks.........

Yikes.
Gotta ask, why is she driving a lexus. Pretty lucky Girl. I had to work my way up to my Dad's car. Back in 1983 I had to drive a 1975 datsun pickup
and prove that I would / could drive with out wrecking the truck before I even came close to using my dad's OR mother's car.
The good news is your daughter is ok, and in the end that is all that really matters, its just a car.
- Garold
PS. If the way my 3 yr son rides his bike is any indication on what kind of driver he is going to be, I'm in trouble.
He drives like his father

kind of OT, but in west virginia it would have been legal to take the deer home and eat it. at least that is what was told to us back in northern virginia.

ok this sounds bad but her 944 is under repairs and the lexus has 75k miles on it so as a trade in it wasnt worth much, easier to have her in a safe car and a family back up.

by the way this is the same daughter who stepped off a mountain backwards taking a picture , who got runn down on a sidewalk coming out of a bank and who was in the hospital for a week with a kidney infection. Except for the mountain thing all of it was this year.

How long has she been driving? Have their been other incidents - or is this just a bad week? Some people are just unlucky. Just playing devil's advocate.
I crashed my spitfire several times when I started driving - I think the sacrificial car is the way to go.
I also learned a hell of a lot by doing stupid shit on sand and gravel - teaches you how to control the car in conditions where traction is at a premium. Probably saved my ass a number of times. Having said that - none of the instances you refer to could have been avoided with more experiences of this type. Looks a bit like carelessness.

My wife and I were just talking about teenage drivers last night. We were wandering if the legal driving age will still be 16 when our 3yo is of age. We kind of hope not since both of us had early car problems. My nickname in highschool was crash, I only totaled one car but managed to get in a few accidents my frist couple years of driving. Never lost my license though, and wanted to drive so bad that I worked 2 jobs so that I could pay for my insurance. Looking back though most teenagers have no concept of the damage they can do behind the wheel of a car.

She has been driving over a year with no issues. The parking mishap was minor, nothing to my car $200 on the other.
The garage, backing out, guilty
The deer, very dark road some what in the country, woods on both sides, probably not her fault. Bad luck. The deer actually ran into the side of the car, missed the other one.
She has had a Extremme Measures Driving course and has spent many hours with Me. Taught her to drive a stick.
But the last 2-3 weeks has been NUTS...

Hm... almost everyone I know started out with a shitbox Escort. I had a Hyundai Excel (Hai-Ya!!
) Reliable enough to get you around town (really, just to school and back, or to a friend's house) cheap gas, and not a total loss if a garage happens to jump infront of it.
Tough break though. I don't mean to pry, but is she suffering the consequences of these incidents? The deer thing was beyond her control, but as far as backing into stuff, she needs to learn to check for her blind spot, and to learn the dimensions of the car she's driving. If there are no consequences to her actions, she won't be inclined to change her driving habits.

What is her 944 under repairs for?
d914
Nov 1 2004, 12:12 PM
89 944 180k miles, leaking steering rack and sway bar bushing. almost a year and half and no damage no issues. But it is time to stettle her down abit.
And no I'm not that kind to go without having a "learning expirence"....

So, no accidents in the 944, huh? Well, as long as she treats the Porsche right, who cares what she does to the Lexus?

Yeah, at least the 944 is okay.
Sounds like she is just having a string of bad luck. one of those things were you are doing fine, then one mishap triggers a dozen others?
Not sure, but hopefully it will pass. I bet your pocket book is starting to feel as bad as that ulser!

Yea, my first car was a '70 PINTO! Four speed, small engine, gutless wonder.
You could hang the tail out on icy parking lots though.
I couldn't drive unless I kept a B average though.

hell, just be glad that she's alright after everything that happened this year! it sounds like a rash of bad luck to me.
go easy on her -- everyone makes mistakes and some of that stuff could happen to anyone. tell her you love her and you want her to be safe.
and for those of you harping on her because she drives a lexus and you drove a yugo with no windshield in the snow uphill both ways (or whatever...):
who cares?!!

Take away her cell phone.
Take out the radio in the Lexus.
Take out the make-up mirrors.
I'm glad that she's OK, but there might be too many distractions.
Remember, it's only November, 2 full months until the end of the year, it could actually end up with someone in an ambulance.
I have had friends who were involved in car accidents that resulted in injuries, the guilt is pretty bad.

Join to local BMW CCA Chapter and get her into a teen drivers clinic before she hurts herself or someone else. They teach real world driving skills not right turn, left turn. Check out the videos on the link. Third and forth one listed. Best thing I did with out question for my teen driver.
BMW CCA North Star Chapter Teen Driving Clinic VideosBTW: My son and his friends did the filming and His friend Forrest did the editing.
