Do you just take a screwdriver and tap off the silver ring from the bottom out?

Any advice here?

Are there lots of small parts below the silver ring?

Is there a specail tool to tap in the new seal?
Is it needed?
Tap it all the way in? (new seal)Click to view attachment

Are you referring to the seal in the trans out put flange, or the gasket that goes between the flange and cv? You have the bolts out so use a ballpeen hammer and smack the side of the cv on the black part and turn the axle while doing it. It separates from the inside of the cv joint. Don't pry on the silver ring. It won't gain you anything. Two of the six holes have locating pins. That is what is holding it.
