Hello!

Is this the right wheels to use on a 914/6 GT:

8 x 15 ET 10,6 mm

7 x 15 ET 23,3 mm

Nr. 911.361.020.41 7x15

Nr. 911.361.020.42 8x15.

Tire sizes ??

Should they be 8x15 and 9x15 ?

Show me yours.

Niklas

Here is a thread including the offset chart. wheels

Here is a picture of mine. I used the more commonly available 16X wheels. I am concerned about future tire availability...

My rears are 8.5X16 made by Weidman Wheels in Oroville CA. Both Harvey Weidman and his brother Al Weidman are long - long time 914 guys and members here. I would describe their work as just a bit beyond perfection... biggrin.gif

This is a great idea, there can NEVER be enough pictures or threads of 'fuchs and flares' .......... biggrin.gif

These are not mine but ....... popcorn[1].gif .............. the first pic is what my replica will look like when completed ........ sunglasses.gif

BTW I really like that 8.5" Weidman Wheels mod (above rears ^^) ........ If they are still doing that, I may have to buy another set of 7x16s ..... smile.gif

TC is right. In order to get a set of 16X8.5 Fuchs you start with 4 - 16X6 wheels.

So they need 4 wheels to get 2 8.5x16s blink.gif ? .......... I thought they used 7s because the angle portion on the rim looks to be the same as the 7s you have up front.

I wonder if they can do that using 951 7x16s ? I like the way the lugs are 'recessed' on the 951 16" fuchs smile.gif. Not to mention I already have an extra pair for rear mods ... popcorn[1].gif

Also as mentioned before ...... there can NEVER be too many 'fuchs and flares' pics ........... so lets get posting!! biggrin.gif

Here are some more thoughts on why Harvey uses 4 16X6 Fuchs to make 2 16X8.5. It takes a long time to get things done by Harvey so I had a good long time to think about it. I remember thinking, 'why doesn't he take 4 16X7 and make 16X10's.' When it came right down to putting the wheels on the car though, I discovered that Harvey has probably forgotten more about 914's then I know. (and yet, he doesn't call himself Dr. 914 smile.gif ) Mark called me to say there was a problem, but he handled it. The problem? The 16X8.5 wheels snuggle right up to the AA flares. Mark opined that this probably wasn't a problem originally since the original GT flares didn't have but half the flange around the wheels arch. Mark just happened to have a car with real factory flares to compare it to. Bottom line, Harvey's 16X8.5 combination couldn't fit any closer to perfect under a set of flares.

As you may be able to see, McMark clearanced the very top of the arch and since the wheels 'gain' camber as the suspension squats, the tire never contacts the wheel arch.

I've got 15x8's on all 4, I liked the the look of the 15's, that's just me.

If you mean for tires? I knew that. But I will not compromise. I want real Fuchs. Even if they are modified. 15's were far too hard to find and I had a dozen 16X6 and 7 sitting around.

I'll post some of mine after the Tropical Ramble. I'm running 16x7 front, 16x9 rear.

It took changing brands to get a set of four tires of comparable performance, but in the end I got 215/45R16 Kumho Ecsta XS's for the front and 245/45R16 Bridgestone Potenza RE-11's for the rear.

The trouble with 15s is very limited available for the street
If there where enuf demand for a run of 245, 225 205( in 15inch) in matching compounds and treads... would a tire company make a run for us vintage guys..if we compiled a big ass list of buyers?? idea.gif

Btw. The first column (Einpresstiefe) is the wheel offset.

The red arrow points to the 9"/11" option which according to the text above was to be used with extra wide (metal?) flares.

Are any businesses/craftsman taking 16x6" Fuchs and widening them to 16x8" or 16x8.5" with only one pair of wheels to original specs/lightness, not 4 16x6"s? I have a set of 16x6" Fuchs and it seems widening them to 8" (or possibly 8.5") would be more cost effective than finding an increasingly expensive pair of original 16x8" wheels.

These wheels were done by Weidman as well though no flares. Wanted to keep body original. They do great work! Also used 911 16X6 fronts because of the more available tire options.Click to view attachment

What finish is that? I like it. Mine are currently black center 16x6 all around and was thinking of jazzing it up after repainting the car.

Lindsey only uses 1 16x6 to make another wheel (Basically cuts out the middle & welds it to rim halves), but I they step up the Diameter by doing this - a 16" becomes a 17"

I really like the wheels on ConeDodger's car, the rears are modded and have the stepped 'look' of 8x15s but with the 16" diameter. Very cool.

In my opinion the 'dish' of normal 8x16s do not look as good as the 8x15s
