I love the 904 and i love the 914, but the two together just doesn't work, IMHO.

The proportions are all off, and everything that makes the 904 such a beautiful car is lost with this kit.

Eh. Loose the scoop on the sails and I'd drive the piss out of it. I'd not call it a 9014 though. I've always like the front end and the rear, just not the scoops.
billh1963
It's got a V8...maybe the scoop is functional?

But yours looks much more like the original when compared to the kit from AA ...

I'd try to find a set of steelies for the 904. The gold rims look out of place.

As for the first-post kit car? "Not my cup of meat" for me as well. I don't find anything inherently wrong about the 914 -- and certainly no reason to turn one into that 904/914 mash-up.

For me, that screams, "I wanted a better car. But this is all I could afford."

It reminds me of when I was a kid -- there was a guy who raced around town in a Ford Pinto. It had a supercharged engine that utilized a plastic newspaper box for the blower. I don't know what he had under the hood, but he used to blow the doors off of stock Corvettes. It was a very, very fast car.

But at the end of the day...it was still just a Ford Pinto. Who cares if it was likely the fastest Ford Pinto ever created? In fact, I think it's a dubious "honor" to be the person who built the world's fastest Ford Pinto.

Just because it's never been done before, doesn't automatically mean it should. I could open a restaurant tomorrow called "Ice-Cold, Soggy French Fries and a Warm, Flat Beer." Nobody has ever tried that concept before, ever. And I think everyone would agree that it's a waste of time and money to do so.

A lot of kit cars are basically "ice-cold fries and warm flat beer" to me. I don't see what people see in them.

Many years ago I was able to park next to a real 904 and didn't know anything about these cars. I was offered a ride and turned it down, but I did sit in it. It was a lost opportunity. hissyfit.gif

Nice pics Tom...dont think I realized how small those 904's are. Only ever seen one on the track from a distance without any point of reference.

Brett,
I agree the 904 is a small car next to a 914. Here's a FORD GT-40 next to my 914 & they are larger than a Porsche 904.
914-Big
GT-40 Medium
904-Small

Tom, don't you mean:
GT-40 - Big (wheelbase=106.7 in, length=182.8 in)
914-Medium (wheelbase=96.5 in, length=156.9 in)
904 - small (wheelbase=90.5 in)

no matter really - these are THE three cars I drool over on a regular basis.

Pure sex on wheels! Hard to believe that you used to be able to buy Ferrari GTO's and similar cars for $5 and $6K in the late '60's and early '70's

You could also buy a nice house for $15K in the late 60s. $10,000 was a very good salary then.

But yeah, we made comparatively more back then (Scaled for inflation, minimum wage was $10/hr in 1968). And a Ferrari cost considerably less -- an average car enthusiast could buy one if he or she saved up for a few years. Not like today where you have to be in a position where you don't think about money to own one.

I remember my Dad paying cash for a new Oldsmobile Toronado in 1973...it was around $5K. He could have bought a GTO for a little more money. That would have made a big difference in his retirement fund!

Yeah, my Dad opted for a new '67 Dodge Dart GT ($2750) over the Mustang; the Dart was more "practical." I still remember an ad in an early 70's Autoweek (When it was the real deal) for a Lola T163 CanAm car with BBC for $3500.....If I only knew!
