I'l looking around at some cars and I like the chrome front and rear bumpers, around 70-73 ??. How hard, or can it be done, to put chrome bumpers on a 74-5-6's. And does it make sence to do so, except I like it. Thanks

74 is a breaze, 75 is more work but not bad to do.

'69 - '74 is a direct swap.

'75 - '76 you have to remove the bumper shocks, grind a lip off on the fenders. mark and drill holes for the earlier style bumpers.

The 1970-74 are all the same. painted or chromed, same size, but it was 1973 that added back bumpereetes, then 1974 added fronts. Those are easilyremovable.

the big ugly black rubber things on the 1975-76 can be swapped. Its a days work, and very rewarding when you are done! the hard part is finding good early style chrome ones for reasonable money.

I noticed someone posted a parts car in classified that had chrome bumpers.

It's the other way around - 73 = front only & 74 added backs for F & R Bumperettes/guards/tits/etc. biggrin.gif

Thanks Tom. Yep, you are correct. beerchug.gif

Then why did my 73 that I purchased new in Aug 73 have tits front and rear?

I was going to ask a different question about bumpers. What's the easiest way to remove the bumper guards? I don't like how they look. Should I just replace the whole bumper?

Well, they just unscrew from the inside, so just take off the bumper and remove them. My bumpers are black and I simply covered the holes from the bumper guards with some black Gorilla brand duct tape. I used a circular punch (about 1/2" to 3/4" ..... don't remember the diameter off hand) to make the "caps", so to speak. If you have chrome bumpers, I'd imagine you could use bright aluminum foil duct tape to do the same thing. Mine lasted on my car over a year and were still plenty strong when I finally decided to go back to stock and put the bumpers guards back on.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that you supposedly can get chrome buttons from the hardware store to cover the holes, but I've never looked for them.

I have removed lots of them. remove bumper, unbolt bumperette from inside, take the bumper down to Ace hardware, and size up the right chrome button plug, insert it in the hole, , glue it from backside so it won't pop out, then remount bumper

They had a serious over run of pre-production tits and decided they would try them out on you.
