basic info 2.4 to 2.6 liter flat normally asperated. 900hp with 200 to 250 torque. Quote was $65,000 t0 $90,000 aud would use production based pistons and cyls so should be easily rebuild and low maintenance. 2 stroke design would it be illegal for track? Technically illegal for street but that could change. Sorry Racers but I am bored and Happy Holidays

I'm not sure I understand the post. Is someone attempting to build it? It sounds unrealistic at best.
Trekkor
I would think a twin turbo 3.0 would be cheaper and not blow up on the first day~

The guys that Quoted me have been building 3 cly inline 1200cc that have reliably 500 hp. this would be using their technology so 6 instead of 3 . the bulk of the cost is in the design and building the case. They have cnc waterjet check out two stroke shop aus if you have a few minutes
Woody
Sounds like a bomb. I'd rather use someone else's money to develop an engine like this not my own. So by all means go ahead. It'll be cool.

I am pretty sure it would be a big grenade and to do it right would take a porsche factory budget. However 2 stroke tech has come a long way from the ring ding ding kawasaki 750s and rds. If porsche had embraced the 2 stroke form the beginning then maybe we would really have something special
brant
so not a porsche engine....
maybe

with a porsche engine I don't believe it is possible.

boosted would help a lot

Can't boost a two stroke. popcorn[1].gif
mrbubblehead
dr. porsche experimented with 2 stroke engines before the development of the horizontal 4 cyl 4 stroke. cant beet the power to weight ratio of a 2 stroke.

Unless ... you add an exhaust valve ...

That would allow you to pressurize the intake side.

the aussies are using pneumatic ex valves. i have a nice pic of the 3cyl but getting error msg to load

I'd like to use one of these someday, not sure what to put it In? Maybe a super light or an Ultima kit car?. http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/engine/...ck/viewall.html

years ago, I tossed around the thought of a 2 stroke 911 engine with a guy that was
a crazy fabricator.

There must be some 2 stroke piston/ cylinder set up from a motorcycle that could be adapted to a 911 case. Piston port set up that the intake comes in from the top of the case.
Then taken a step further, figure out a way to use split roller bearings on the crank and rods..
Probably a grenade in the making.. But would be interesting to see what it reved like and what it sounded like.

3.0 6cyl 400hp= loud and stinky

you might as well try this too

This thing is interesting. Basically a 2-stroke. Different design, claiming incredible efficiency and power-to-weight. And they are talking about boost....

Orbital Engine company out of Australia was getting high horsepower and incredible fuel efficiency back in the 80's out of small displacement engines. The problem with 2 strokes as we all know is the noise and emissions. They could never get past the U.S. emissions standards for any of their products to be sold here but as far as I knew they were still trying! Here is a brief history of their company

The more I think about this idea the less credible it is...

first what the heck are you going to do with the car?

it won't be race legal as a sports car
it won't be street legal anywhere
there is no displacement/class limit I know of in most drag racing circles
I can't imagine an actual race class is limiting your engine displacement.
the smart money says: more displacement is a cheaper way to make power.

so if you want a 900hp drag car, why wouldn't you follow a conventional path... (pushing new ground is not the smart way). Get a mustang and supercharge it. I watched a 2011 rousch with street legal plates pull 870hp at the wheels on a dyno jet. quite a site to stand next to I promise. the guy probably had a little less than your 90K budget into it.

If your just looking to blow 100k why wouldn't you buy a twin turbo viper or atom or something else extremely cool.

I guess I should add this to the: "its fun to make up fantasy's on the internet." column.

Sorry Brant, I guess I live in the land of plenty and i know that there are guys in my area who make over 1,000,000 a month.

they don't make that kind of money from being stupid...
a fantasy about a theoretical engine that has no useful purpose is pretty stupid
inventive building always has a purpose... even sometimes a comercial purpose

your torque values make it not so useable..
buy a judd or some ex-F1 engine if you want crazy numbers that serve no purpose. probably cheaper and also would have a longer life.
the development and trial and error have been completed and even paid for by someone else.
(plus a judd v-10 will have a much much better sound)
watch this

hell buy a whole F1 car with the motor intact
there should be some 2nd tier cars in your price range
and you have something you can actually take out and play with, or get accepted into some vintage events with.
