I have started this thread to identify important 914 dates, thinking we might put them on the 914 calendar if it ever gets to production. These are the only dates I could locate in Brian Longs 914 book. What other dates should be included? I will keep this first post up to date as new dates are suggested.

1 Aug 1966 - 914 project initiated

15 Mar 1967 - First official presentation of 914 for Prof. Nordhoff in Stuttgart - Zuffenhausen / Germany

2 Sep 1967 - VW agrees to produce the 914

19 Sep 1967 - Decision that the 914 should be a 3-seater

20 Nov 1967 - All 914 technical drawings complete

1 Mar 1968 - First 914 body completed

1 Mar 1968 - First test drive for a prototype 914 (?). It was a 914/4.

7 Mar 1968 - First 914 prototype delivered to Weissach

12 Apr 1968 - Professor Heinz Nordhoff dies

4 Jul 1976 - Garretson 914/6 team of three 914s places 2nd, 3rd, 4th at Pikes Peak Hillclimb, with Rick Mears as lead driver.

14 September - International Porsche 914 Day biggrin.gif

Earliest known 914/4 and 914/6 chassis dates

Last known 914/4 and 914/6 chassis dates

Thanks Wolfgang...I was really hoping someone could give us data from DGVWP Buch... biggrin.gif

Whats this about 1 Mar 1968...

First body completed and first test drive on the same day?

Do you have any clarification? Maybe by 'body completed' they mean full car completed?

Hi Jeff - I' happy to help with my german knowledge laugh.gif

about 1st March '68: at this point my english knowledge is too bad sad.gif

the german word is "Rohkarosserie" - maybe Andy could translate it correctly confused24.gif

what it means is, that only the body was complete - no chassis, no interior and such stuff ...

the 1st complete car was dated by end of April, this time test drivings started

from Karman Classic:

==============================
Bau von 20 Prototypen bekannt
Lieferung des 1. Prototyps am 7.3.1968,
Lieferung des 15. Prototyp am 17.11.1968,
Lieferung des 20. Prototyp am 17.12.68
==============================

that means:
20 prototype cars were build by karman and shipped to weissach between march '68 and december '68.

the 1st prototype was delivered to weissach on March 7th 1968,
the 15th prototype was delivered to weissach on November 17th 1968,
and the 20th prototype was delivered to weissach on December 17th 1968

NOTE: those cars delivered were just the bare shells (Rohkarosserie) and they were completed in weissach by porsche.

we know of 4 that have survived, the two 8-Cylinder Cars (914111 and 914006) as well as Brad's /6 Prototype (914114) and the Sport-O-Matic Prototype (914120) ...

"Rohkarosserie" means the stripped/bare chassis, no interior, no suspension, no trim, no nothing, just the bare metal body ...

Hey Jeff,
in your opening post up top, you wrote:

12 Apr 1968 Professor Heinz Nordhoff dies

I've always heard a 'story' about some leader at VW dying, which led to the new leader (?) NOT agreeing to the original agreement between Porsche & VW re: the 914.

Is Professor Heinz Nordhoff that person?

Yep.. he's the dead guy from VW who made the handshake deal with Porsche that his successor did not agree with.
