I was able to check the gas mileage tonight when I topped off the tank for the first time and am getting 27.5mpg hot rodding. So, the next experiment will be to go thru a tank of fuel taking it easy to see if I can break 30mpg. I suspect so! This is with a 76 2.0L FI installed in a 72.

My 1.7L got 35+ mpg even when i was beating on it.

My current /6 on the other hand runs at about 23mpg which is not bad at all if you factor in the added grin per miles bonus.

I plan to put the original 1.7l back in the 72 with its rear shifter.

23mpg from a 3.6? I'd say that great!

I've sold the engine since this but the 2.0 that I rebuilt and had in Blackie got 37 mpg on the hi way w/ passenger & luggage @ 80mph going to Route 66 run.

have you calibrated your speedometer and odometer with the non standard size tires you are running?

Using a GPS to keep track of the miles driven is the easiest way.

30+ can be achieved, but you need to keep focused on MPG driving style to do that.

I tried to get to 40mpg years ago...
Never quite got there, but I did get over 35 and nearly in range a few times.

Andy,
Do you really care what MPG you get???
I would not in that car...its just to much fun.

I usually don't. burnout.gif

But on some of the longer roadtrips it's nice to know how far a tank of gas will get you.

The Red Rocks Classic is a 2,000 miles round-trip ...

No matter what I drive the tank outlasts my bladder and back now.
