I'm looking for someone that has installed the Becker CDR 220 in a 914:
My questions are:
1) What the best place to purchase new ?

2) Is the fit good; both for the overall box, and the face plate.

3) Whats the downside, besides the price?

I have one in my Boxster and it's nothing spectacular. Not that I have a better suggestion, but I think you'd invest considerable expense when you could get something that sounds better for less, or spend the same money and get better speakers.

Just look in the back of Excellence or Panorama. There's a vendor that sells them new.
