I am rebuilding my '76 2.0 L. I bought a VDO CHT gauge. The sender is set under a spark plug. I assume I would place it under the hottest plug...? I know on a VW Bug it would be the #3 cylinder, but on our Type 4 ( 2.0 L ) does anybody have a recommendation.

Thanks.

#3 plug four a T4 as well.
You need to grind a slight relief in the cylinder head for the lead. No biggie.
The VDO CHT gauge is usually considered to be not worth the plastic it's made from. If you can, return it and get a temp compensated gauge like Dakota Digital.

Hmmm. I'll have to look in to things more. This engine won't see any track time, just a daily driver. The car came with the center console gauge -no numbers-and I thought this would dress things up a bit. So my thinking wa that this wasn't critical.

Thanks for your input. I'll checkout DD.

Anybody else's experience?

Most safe would be all four but even my car has "only" the vdo cht gauge setup!
First I will use the car in autoX etc but it's a safety measure at the HOTTEST cylinder! And foremost the vdo is the only gauge you can buy that looks right!!!!
