I just put my case halves together and after I got everything torqued down I checked the crank and it it spins free.

However the end play seems a little excessive. Haven't measured it yet but guess is it is atleast .125"

Is this due to the distributor drive not being installed yet and/or the flywheel not installed yet either?

Just nervous as this is the first time at building one up.

Flywheel has to be installed, you adjust the shims between the flywheel and the crank until you get end play of 0.003-0.005"

or do math, install only the two thicker shims and figure out what size to put in to bring you to 0.003-0.005, then reinstall and measure

your fine, carry on.

At this point you should have 2 shims (to measure end play, no seal in yet) and flywheel temporarily in place.

I just put in my first rebuild too. I decided whattheheck, just put the three shims/spacers in that came off on the tear down and see how close that is, nothingtolose since if you start with the two shims you usually have to add a third anyway. ...Dial indicator showed it was right at .004. I got lucky.

You're right, there sure is a lot of slop before you put the flywheel on.

I'll try to start it this week. Good luck on yours.
